4 out of the 5 Saw films have been very good (except part 2). I believe that because of this, the Saw franchise has pretty much knocked off the Halloween, Hellraiser, Texas Chainsaw, Child's Play, and even the Nightmare series. Does anyone agree?
p.s. Next Halloween, the Saw video game comes out as well.

The Saw series is complete and utter shit. But the Halloween, Hellraiser, TCM, and most of the Child's Play sequels are either overrated or suck outright.

Yeah, technically Nightmare have the best stories, the most style, the best art direction, the most researched ideas, more ambition, more creativity.
And all of the Saw sequels suck. As does the original.

And it sounds like it would make an even stinkier movie.
The point is- everything people rave about these movies, they failed to actually deliver. I think people are lying to themselves about them. Because they want horror to still be alive here in good ol' U-S-of-A. But I won't accept offerings by a bunch of snot-nosed, retard hotshot music-video directors fresh out of college who don't know horror and are all just ripping off Se7en. These movies aren't even fun on a Friday the 13th level. Fuck that, these movies aren't even fun on a SLEEPAWAY CAMP franchise level! They are boring. You want boring? Saw is boring! Saw II, III, IV, and V - all boring.

Just say that the opening autopsy scene in Saw 4 was cool. Give me that much, please.

I got into this series because of Bravo's 30 Scarier Movie Moments. When I saw them talking about Saw II, I got really intrigued. I couldn't figure out how a bunch of people who end up in a situation where they're trapped in a madman's labyrinth of crazy traps. Which YES is an idea I like. Just enough to want to watch it.
Let me tell you what bothered me about it. First, I watched and there weren't enough traps. Mostly, it was the people walking around in a group. I want separations. I want people locked in rooms by themselves trying to figure out what's going on. Not only that, but I didn't see people getting in enough traps. How many were there anyway in fact? There was that gun to the head one (ripped off from Argento's Opera, of course) but it wasn't positioned as a trap - THEREFORE, there was no fear or tension or dread leading up to the death.
Then, there was the fire one. But everyone was standing around and yelling and one of them was doing the big tough machoman thing and that feels like a thriller or an action movie, so now my horror pleasure is gone from that. Not to mention the music was pitched for suspense rather than slow or hardcore terror. Then, there was the pit of needles. Which happens to the girl who survived the whole movie. So it doesn't enhance the scariness or the strangeness of the Ten-Little-Indians / And Then There Were None idea of the movie. Then, there's the razorbox, which happens with the person just sticking their hand in. No build-up whatsoever. So again, it just sits there and does nothing.
Next, the camerawork. The movie isn't scary if they keep doing shaky and speedy moves with the camera. It looks like C.S.I. You know, or some crime show like that (Without a Trace?) where they do weird flashbacks and make the photography strained and do strange closeups and processes with the film and put the camera in strange places and tint the colors. Blah blah blah.
Then, the story. I don't care about Donnie Wahlberg (unless he's going to strip) or his stupid little brother or son or whatever that little shit was. I don't want to know about him. I don't give a fuck about that garbage. I'm not impressed that he was a corrupt cop, Jigsaw now is supposed to be some kind of hero to us because he punishes corrupt cops, but he also kidnaps petty criminals and tortures them for no reason. Plus he wasn't even watching the torture, so what the hell is his reason for doing half these things? The explanation they came up with was bullshit. It makes him look pathetic (more than he already did just because physically he's basically the same as Hannibal Lecter and John Doe from Se7en). And he doesn't just say it once, he goes on and on about it like it's interesting. It's NOT!
I'm not someone who saw these movies because of the name-value hype. I saw them for my own reasons. I wasn't disappointed when I saw them either. They were getting a lot of attention and a lot of people were praising them, so I had to see if they saw something I didn't. If these movies had anything going for them.
I'm also not saying this just to be argumentative or annoying. When I watched Saw, I literally counted a serious flaw every single minute of the film. Every single thing in that movie was pure shit. Every scene was fucked up. Every character was stupid. The whole movie is tainted with bullshit and idiocy. I had to yell at the screen, which I did and frequently. My throat hurt by the end of the movie. Saw literally is worse than most of the remakes to come out this decade. It's even worse than DARKNESS FALLS, which is, after The Blair Witch Project, the 2nd most "I can't believe the bullshit I'm seeing" viewing of a horror film made after 1998 that I sat through in my entire life.
I cannot wrap my brain around the drugs people are on to be able to not see the awfulness in these movies. Or what the fucking appeal is supposed to be! There's almost nothing in these movies to begin with. The alleged backstories feel like they were written by a 5 year old. Or a writer who thinks the audience are as naive and gullible as 5 year olds.

See - I know what I'm talking about. I don't analyze too much, I judge for what a movie's really worth. And Saw failed on every level. In fact, I honestly can't remember why I didn't give it zero stars. No I gave it 1 half star (not 1 and a half, no way Jose).
I think all the sequels have been better than the original. Of course, not by much. I did think the time twist in Saw II was good. I honestly wasn't expecting it.

you know what you are talking about in your own head Nope, you wish. MANY people like the saw movies, so dont try and talk for anyone else Many people don't know how bad these movies are. You know this, T, I've corrected you about this several times. If you can't handle that, that's your problem. Not mine.
