If you're jaded or look to movies to provide you with excitement that you're not getting in real life - HOW am I supposed to relate to you? I look to movies for lots of things at the same time, and with horror I get that quite a lot. You seem to want 1 thing and if you don't get it, the movie sucks.
that makes no sense at all, i watch movies to be entertained, they have nothing to do with my personal life, and no you are not to smart to watch saw, you just like to pretend you are so smart and see more then anyone else, but you dont, so you can cut the shit

TYPICAL T, avoid the points I make and throw bullshit names and claims around.
You'll never change - that's why you're an idiot.
You don't even READ the posts I make. You just look for one word or sentence to TWIST the meaning around just because you want a quick win and you want to be better than me. PATHETIC T. And very, very typical.

i read it, its just all bullshit, so im not gonna break it down like you do, cuz if i were to break it all down you would just come back and break all my stuff down, and that would just lead to pointless arguing

i read it, its just all bullshit You wish, T. You're always wishing you were right and superior. But you're too stupid to know anything. YOU'RE the one who's bullshitting. You avoid anything that requires thinking. I think, so you call it bullshit. so im not gonna break it down like you do Go right ahead. I'll await the first intelligent thing you'll ever say... I'm waiting! cuz if i were to break it all down you would just come back and break all my stuff down And that would require you to think? OUCH! OOH! OW! That hurts you a lot, doesn't it? Using your head? and that would just lead to pointless arguing YOU DON'T ARGUE, T! You AVOID. You shrug everything off with your bullshit. You pretend that there's nothing to understand, which is probably because you are incapable of understanding ANYTHING. Prove for just once you can actually discuss something! You can't. You are afraid of thinking and reading is too hard for you.

T, you are doing this because you want to look better than me. You do it every single time. If you're finished trying to compete, good. But that means you have to start listening and reading. I'm not sure you can do that. It requires maturity and whether you have it or not, you never show it.
I try to discuss things with you, but you ALWAYS reduce it to arguing. And even then, you're not using your brain. You're using your prejudices. And if you're not going to think or explain your "opinions," I don't care what you have to say. Just remember: explain. I'll give you all the time and space you need to express what you're thinking and feeling. I'm not a jerk. You make me out to be a jerk. I want to know what you think. But you have to try and explain.

i dont try to argue thats all on you, i tell you how i felt about a movie and rather then respect my opinion you flip out with your name calling and trying to say im not a horror fan which is absoulte bullshit and you know it, just as there are many diff types of horror movies there are many diff types of fans, from one horror fan to another i would think you would be able to respect that and not be such a dick, we both like horror so rather then get along wit me you choose to try and bash me cuz i dont like some of the movies you do, its just dumb and childish

i dont try to argue thats all on you, i tell you how i felt about a movie and rather then respect my opinion you flip out with your name calling T, you have no memory. Or, you are manufacturing this, again to make yourself look better than me. I never flipped out. Ever. I still haven't. You're the one who flips out because you don't understand what I'm talking about. You can't accept my simple points, so you insult me. And I name-call, sure. Because you did it first. You always do it first. I merely defend myself. That's the way it goes. And you always lie about it. You always switch it around and say I did it first. Not true. And like I said before, about opinions - you have to explain it or it's NOT a REAL opinion. I can't respect a few words. That's not an opinion, it's an insult. Start explaining the few words you say and then I guess none of this will happen. No more excuses. and trying to say im not a horror fan which is absoulte bullshit and you know it T, all you do is watch a lot of horror movies. That's all. Check around, most horror fans do more than just watch the horror movies. Anyway, point is - you don't have to compete. You never did. Just don't ever praise shit like Saw after insulting masterpieces with stupid claims like "it's boring" without anything to back that up. That doesn't prove you're a horror fan. In fact, it says the opposite. Which is why I say you're not a horror fan. I get that you don't like it. Which is why you're free to NOT respond at any time you'd care to. just as there are many diff types of horror movies there are many diff types of fans, from one horror fan to another i would think you would be able to respect that and not be such a dick Remember, T - you started this. You can think whatever you want to, but when you say what you think, you have to respect the genre. Saying "Saw is great" just because of the twist? That is not respect, not while a few days earlier you claim The Evil Dead and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which are movies that both work on several different levels and are at the absolute pinnacle-point of the genre, suck or "are boring." I GET IT. They're boring to you. But why not keep that to yourself? You should know as a true horror fan, saying that is disrespecting the genre. we both like horror so rather then get along wit me you choose to try and bash me cuz i dont like some of the movies you do, its just dumb and childish T, I've just told you AT LEAST TWICE JUST SINCE YOU'VE BEEN ONLINE RIGHT NOW: This is about more than just "LIKE." This is about what is good and bad. And understanding what makes what. You can choose not to understand - but never attack the genre. This is about The Horror Genre. As an artform.

If you want to.
Anyway, there IS a lot going on in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The fucking thing has been put in the SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE. They keep/feature shit like Michelangelo's David statue and the Mona Lisa painting in that place. You know? They have the highest standards of art and historical stuff of anyone in the entire world.
I still don't know what you expected. Gore? Do you actually think you would have liked it then?
Do you think it had no story? No characters?
Maybe you thought it was boring because it made you uncomfortable. NOT SHOCKED YOU. But made you uncomfortable. Plus- 1970's horror had slower pace. You probably don't like slower paced stuff.
What other horror films do you like from the 1970's and mid-1980's? There has to be something?

it might have made it more entertaining, but thats about it
Do you think it had no story? No characters?
the story was whatever and the characters were prety blah

it didnt really leave me feeling anything except bored, and im all for a slower paced movie, but if its slow, it has to have a good story or some good twists or something, this did not
What other horror films do you like from the 1970's and mid-1980's? There has to be something?
its not really about a year thing for me, sure i like movies from the 70's 80's 90's and 2000's, i know how to appriciate alot of diff movies, as for the 70's i already mentioned hills have eyes, dawn of the dead was of course great, phantasm, while i think very overated is still very good with great atmosphere, there are some others from the 70's and PLENTY from the 80's, i just need to think tho and right now am not in the mood so i will make a list and get back to you

I still don't know what you expected. Gore? Do you actually think you would have liked it then?it might have made it more entertaining, but thats about it You mean, it might have been more like OTHER movies? Meaning, you wanted it to feel like other horror movies you've seen. This is good, I think we're getting somewhere. Don't tell me what is better, tell me- what movie you were expecting it to be LIKE. Since the 1970's were a bit different from the 80's. What movie were you expecting it to be like? Was it another slasher film, like... Friday the 13th? Because if it was, it of course would have had a different location and all that. Were you expecting the victims to sort of SURPISE-jump scene get their throats slit or be gutted with stuff? Or did you expect them to be kidnapped and dragged into rooms where they would be kind of tortured? I think that kind of thing happened in the '70s. But you also have to remember that they saved gory scenes or barely showed them at all in the 1970's in horror. There's nothing wrong with that. In fact, that's why the 1970's was the best decade. There hadn't been movies that were just about Tom Savini gore effects, so there was no way to just pander out. The movies didn't just say- "we have to be as gory as Friday the 13th." The filmmakers relied more on storytelling, characters, and social commentary. Which is basically what Texas Chainsaw Massacre was. If you expected a bloodbath or a gore machine, you should know that maybe it's you who is boring and not the movie. No offense, but maybe that's the truth. As for 'entertaining' ... Well, it wasn't cheap entertainment. Is that what you think all horror movies are about? Some horror movies are cheap. Others, you have to plug in to. Texas Chainsaw Massacre was compelling and riveting. Which means it works on a higher level than the cheap gore films. That's what makes it a masterpiece. It's not a masterpiece just because it keeps us from being bored. It's a masterpiece because it's smart AND it looks amazing. It does have a style that you can't get anywhere else. Because other filmmakers who might have made a movie that looks like this wouldn't have made it as well, as smart. Do you think it had no story? No characters?the story was whatever and the characters were prety blah The story was life in the 1970's. No better story focus than that. What I wanted to know was: how important were the story and characters to you? How much did this movie not making up a lot of stuff about the characters bother you? Because when I watched The Blob Remake, I noticed that it did little making up of characters (actually it relied more on cliche, but you've seen it- you didn't need me to tell you that). But it felt that making things up for the purpose of calling it a story, was important for them. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre shows a group of people living their daily life, interrupted by a chainsaw-wielding maniac killer and the people he lives with. There's more attention paid to tension and stylistic suspense than traditional story. The scene where Pam falls in the room of bones & feathers is a good example - notice how if that were happening to you, you might look up and see this and then run the fuck out of there- asap! But TCM wanted to explore what she was seeing, to stretch it out so we could experience it - because THAT is what horror is all about. The moments that last longer than they would in real life. Because the best horror is not very realistic. Atmosphere is not realistic. It's like fantasy, your imagination- but milked for artistic value. Maybe you thought it was boring because it made you uncomfortable. NOT SHOCKED YOU. But made you uncomfortable. Plus- 1970's horror had slower pace. You probably don't like slower paced stuff.it didnt really leave me feeling anything except bored, and im all for a slower paced movie, but if its slow, it has to have a good story or some good twists or something, this did not Good twists 1970's horror movies don't DO twists! And, a twist on What? A twist on what the horror genre was before The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? TCM was too busy being an original film to bother to twist what had already been done. You really have to understand, before TCM- there was slasher genre like you know it. There was no Halloween or Friday the 13th or any of the movies that copied them (Prom Night, Happy Birthday to Me, New Year's Evil, April Fools Day, etc). All there was before TCM were Psycho, Mario Bava's Bay of Blood, The Last House on the Left, and Black Christmas- but Black Christmas was being made at the same time as TCM. Slower paced movies can be bogged down by attempted story efforts. If the story is bad, like all of Fulci's films, it can severely damage the movie as a whole. The Evil Dead, for instance, probably does the same thing you don't like about TCM. Its' story focus is on what you're experiencing through imagery and sound combined. But what's so great about that in Evil Dead and Texas Chainsaw Massacre is the level of artistry the filmmakers had in doing that. It's not about ANY horror movie doing this, is about good horror movies doing this. Because the filmmakers were smart and tried very hard to make the movies work on this level. And they succeeded. And there was an AMAZING story in TCM. It's just in the background. Listen to what the radio says in the opening credits, remember that there was a major war going on in the early 1970's, look at the domestic quality of the life the Leatherface clan were living in. It's an observational horror movie. Like Argento, which I talked about in the Last Horror Movie You Watched Part 2 thread. The details are in the frames. You just have to know how to look for it. Because when you do, it will smack you in the face right away. And you won't have to try or pick the movies apart- like you used to say I do. All of this observation on my part comes naturally (because I re-view). What other horror films do you like from the 1970's and mid-1980's? There has to be something?its not really about a year thing for me, sure i like movies from the 70's 80's 90's and 2000's, i know how to appreciate a lot of diff movies, as for the 70's i already mentioned hills have eyes, dawn of the dead was of course great, phantasm, while i think very overated is still very good with great atmosphere, there are some others from the 70's and PLENTY from the 80's, i just need to think tho and right now am not in the mood so i will make a list and get back to you I think most people understand Phantasm very well. It has a lot of meaning in it, from the point of view of the director. He says the whole movie is a metaphor for Mike, the kid, feeling abandoned. And he is, by his parents, then his brother. Which of course sends my head for a spin, because then- what is "The Game" about? The Tall Man makes references to them "play"ing "a game," but what does that mean? Anyway, it's the creepiest thing about Phantasm (which is a fun, creepy movie for sure), that there is a "relationship" between Tall Man and Mike. But that's sort of about childhood fears. On the quality level, Phantasm is hurt by bad acting and some very bad choices in the writing. What saves it, and also what makes it an above average horror film, is how incredibly detailed and elaborate the atmosphere is. The music, the entire look of the film, the distortion of reality, the "monster"s... It's a film that's easy to get lost in. And that quality is often rare for a horror film. I kind of found that in the Friday the 13th films, too. Which is why, no matter how many people insult the series, I always defend them a little bit because of that. You could sort of live inside a Friday the 13th film for about 90 minutes or so. As for Dawn of the Dead, what do you mean "of course great"? How can I possibly tell what movie you're going to give credit to or not? Your 'opinions' oftentime are a lot like the army of kids today who saw Saw as their first horror film and don't know anything about previous horror films. They think anything with a style different to Saw or the remakes is "boring." While I see now that you're making efforts to explain a little, I'm surprised to see you saying how great you think Dawn of the Dead is. Just read the 1-star reviews of the movie on Amazon . com and you'll see them saying the movie sucks because the zombie makeup is blue or there's too much talking (like Saw doesn't have too much talking in it!) or it's not a horror film at all because there's comedy in it. I'm still very glad to see you appreciate The original Hills Have Eyes. Now there's a movie that has no story. Oh, of course there's a story in it. And characters with some shading and gravity to them. But that's not what makes the movie work. It has a different approach to it than Texas Chainsaw Massacre and doesn't feel as dramatic or tragic as Craven's Last House on the Left. So it's not as powerful as either of those movies. Not that it has to be. But like TCM, it's very good at putting you in-the-moment. And does comment a lot on family structures. Which, there's always a lot of room to do that in a horror film. It's a better exploration of family values than TCM. And exploits the cliches of the family and religion and civilization, and soforth. It's more skillful than brutal. Which always makes for the best horror. Remember this, T: SKILL over BRUTALITY. Always the way to go. As for that list... I eagerly await it.
