Other than KNB, this man is the greatest FX artist the genre has had. I'm sure his stuff would still hold water today but mostly all you see is CGI shit. This CGI has no place in horror movies but maybe it reflects the tastes of the audience?! The ending to Friday Part 4...priceless. I'm sure he did the FX but if not, let me know.

He was entertaining in both From Dusk Till Dawn and Planet Terror so... I guess you're right! I don't know if he stars in it but I heard about a movie called "Tom Savini's Chill Factor".Maybe it's worth a look?!

he was in this one movie called vicious
the creature was all CGI and it looked like he was straight out of a PS2 game
they shoulda hired savani for the special FX and not the main bad guy

I also love his effects. But in addition to the movies he stars in sucking, also a lot of movies he did effects for sucked too.

Even Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter. Which of course I enjoy because it's part of the original Paramount Friday the 13th series.

How did part 4 suck as compared to the rest of the library? I'd consider it 3rd best.

I've had this discussion with plenty of people - they never agree. I honestly don't feel like getting into it again.
But if I have to, I'll say- the acting is tied with part 6 for the worst, the characters are more annoying here than in the other movies, the writing is worse in this movie than part 2 (the other worst written of the Paramount series), and most of the scenes play horribly.
But again, I do enjoy the movie's atmosphere, the gore (which is great), the girl playing Trish (Kimberly Beck), and that's pretty much it.
It's not 3rd best, it's 8th best.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Two,six, and 10 were the worst of the series hands down.
"Ted, where's corkscrew?" Best killing in the first four. All two had was the guy in the wheelchair getting a machete in the head then rolling down the steps.(top 5 killing for sure)

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Two, six, and 10 were the worst of the series hands down. 10 was Jason X. Jason X was a cheesefest for sure. But the fact was, it was better than Jason Goes to Hell and Freddy Vs. Jason. Oh, and the reason I get away with saying that? Because I've seen the franchise-goes-to-space movies. You sort of have to see Leprechaun 4 and Critters 4. And well, all things considered, as much as many people hate it, Jason X is still better acted and written than Jason Goes to Hell and Freddy Vs. Jason. I used to hate Jason Lives (part VI/6) myself. Because, like I said, it has the worst acting along with part 4. I also never liked the humor. Technically, I still don't. But I like the overall atmosphere that it contributed to. Because Jason Lives was a fun movie. And more than that, it was one of the scariest of the whole series. And the gore was great too. The woods were shot in a very creepy way. And the Alice Cooper songs were amazing. No argument from me on part 2, though. That was one of the 2 worst of the Paramount series.

The gore is the only reason to watch a movie like that anyway. I wonder why Tom Savini turned his nose up at the Friday the 13th series, yet the movies he did while they were being made were 100 times trashier.

"Anybody who watches past Friday Part 1 is an idiot.Because there is no Jason.Jason was a kid who drowned in the lake." His words not mine.

I guess he's under the impression that he created Jason. That's funny, because the sequels almost never use the child Jason at all. So, though he is still deformed in almost all the sequels, he's not Tom Savini's original creation.
If he really meant what he said, he was either drunk, or an idiot. But then... he also thought it was a good idea to remake Night of the Living Dead.

I didn't have any problem with his remake of Night of the Living Dead. It was entertaining enough and Tony Todd is always fun to watch onscreen.

I thought the "Night of the Living Dead" remake was a decent horror movie, but it pales in comparison to the original. It's at least way better than the crap Holy-wood is shoving down our throats nowadays ("The Fog" remake, "House of Wax" remake).

My point was that Tom Savini didn't bring anything creative to the table that was good or original enough to warrant having the movie made. Unfortunately, his forte is always going to be just the effects and his directing is not going to bring him any new acclaim.
If that's what he was looking for by doing that movie. It was still a bad idea.
