Just finished watching "Spooked". What a pile of utter shit! While I am not a big fan of the "haunted" sub-genre, It's not because its not a good genre, but rather, its never been done well. There is so much room for exploration in this genre, because absolutely anything is possible. This episode did exploit this whatsoever. Eric Roberts was terrible. I've never understood why that guy gets work. The script was brutal, the story was trite and the direction was uninspired. All in all, an absolute failure.
On the plus side, I have been racking my brain to come with a concept for a horror script. I have always wanted to give back to the genre that has contributed so much to my life. This episode, horrible as it was, has convinced me that this may be the sub-genre to explore....

Every thing I've ever watched in the horror genre has inspired some form of creativity in me. Even this one.
I just think Spooked was so damn cliched and predictable. And very painfully made-for-TV feeling.
Another problem I have with so much of today's modern horror is that the characters aren't interesting. And they're not. So many independent dramas and comedies and films that mix the 2 genres are doing some amazing things with characterization and acting. Horror movies used to count for independent films and used to be just as good as the best Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman, Clint Eastwood, etc-type less mainstream films of the '70s and early '80s.
But the 1990's really stepped independent filmmaking up a notch. And as it got better (with so many killer cutting edge filmmakers it's hard to name them all), horror has gotten worse. The best filmmakers aren't even making horror films anymore. Our writers are all talentless fanboys, the directors are losing their touches.
It's so damn sad.

wow, me and laz are agreeing!!?? must have something to do with it being friday the 13th I just think Spooked was so damn cliched and predictable. And very painfully made-for-TV feeling.you really summed it all up in one sentence there laz, thats exactly what it was, and necro what dont you like about eric roberts, i have never had a prob with him and thought he was great in this, but also like laz said i mean he did save the kid so he may have been a dirtbag but he wasnt THAT bad, and whats up laz you said ur gonna watch every episode, you already backing out next week?? ha

You said it - I've already seen as much of Face/Off as I ever care to.
I might record part of it and then the tape'll run out (I record the 6 hour tape on SP which is 2 hour, of course, and I'll have maybe half of it - that'll be enough to decide, I think).
I don't know. I'll see what happens next week.

I would too, but I think this one's going to be pretty much exclusively Action and Drama, not Horror.

Good point. But it's Ronny Yu. I mean, Bride of Chucky was amazing. But that's because the script / screenplay was so good. Freddy Vs. Jason was shit.
So it's going to sort of depend on who wrote it.

"Badass"? That's for action movies. And Ronny Yu clearly makes action movies, not horror movies. I still don't know how he made Bride of Chucky. But, some things the world may never know.

welll i always thought of it as an action hero type like rambo, or some cool looking monster/bad guy in a horror movie

Well, we're not "really" supposed to root for the monster in a horror movie. We can like him or her or it. But it's not really supposed to be a hip kind of thing. "Badass" is a hip expression. It's in now, but later, I hope the people using it will be as ashamed of themselves as I am of them right now.
