One of my favorite genres of film are revenge movies. The "Death Wish" series, and more recently, "Death Sentence", are classics in my book. To me, nothing is better than watching the bad guys get what's coming to them.
I'd like to hear your opinions on this.

They're good in theory. But most of them really suck. Double Jeopardy, Enough, and Domestic Disturbance are good examples - the lead characters get tortured for an hour and 15 minutes, then they get themselves together for 5-10 minutes, then they launch an attack on their enemy, the enemy starts to get the better of them, then- a lucky break kills the nearly supernaturally powerful Human villain(s).
It's kind of like- I Spit on Your Grave, really. The filmmakers are very stupid. They think there's nothing in the world worse than killing someone. So, they torture and torture and torture and torture the lead characters forever- putting them through hell, and then they think- "okay, after ALL THAT, people will now accept that it's okay to kill the bad guy."
With that, though, I have not seen Death Sentence yet.

Death Sentence is a very good film, despite a few lapses in logic and the inclusion of a pointless detective character.

Okay. But 1 question... How long does the main character in Death Sentence get tortured? Longer than he gets revenge on the "bad guy(s)"?

Okay. But 1 question... How long does the main character in Death Sentence get tortured? Longer than he gets revenge on the "bad guy(s)"? Well, it starts with his son getting killed by a member of a small gang as an inititation ritual and it goes from there.

i love revenge movies.. especially when the revenge is personal.. like in death sentence..anytime a family member gets killed or some1 gets raped those make for the best type of revenge movies.. nothing better then watching a dirtbag get whats coming to him
while death sentence is not realistic in some parts its still a great revenge movie.. kevin bacon plays his role GREAT
iv seen it twice already and love it

When revenge is carried out because of personal trauma, I love it. And the Baconator was amazing.

^^ yea those are the only TRUE revenge movies
1- some1 attempted to kill you
2- some1 killed a family member or members or a close friend
3- some1 raped a family member or close friend
i love those type of movies.. id rank them right up there with horror as my fav genre
and bacon deserves an oscar for that role.. he was very believable as a good loving dad turned to a blodthirsty killer out for revenge

Well, it starts with his son getting killed by a member of a small gang as an inititation ritual and it goes from there. What does that mean, exactly? The plot? Because I didn't ask for the plot. The plot in a movie like this doesn't matter. What matters is : Is this a movie about really getting back at the Bad guys? Or is it a movie where in the end, the Bad guys end up dead but most of the movie is devoted to putting the main character through hell?? Piggsy - you did not answer me, either.

Okay... Now, how much of the movie is spent torturing him? More or Less than Half of it?

actually torturing him?? i would say less
but i mean his kid is killed in the begining.. so realisitically he is tortured the whole movie.. i mean his son died a senseless death and the killers are still out there.. at least thats how i see it

Three words... Out For Justice
Segal is corny as shit but he pretty much clears out the baddies who killed his partner. Does this count?

I remember Hard to Kill as a kid - the constant overkill of bone-breaking sound effects was both disturbing and, kind of intriguing to me in my youth viewing of R-movies days. My father who hates Horror would let me watch these (horrible) action movies... Little did he know the violence in these movies helped me appreciate the more hardcore side of horror.

I heard Seagal asked Jenny McCarthy to take her top off in an audition for one of his movies. I believe her story and think he's an asshole. And he's certainly not a good actor (no questioning that). His one talent is to kick peoples' asses and for that (alone), I respect his film body of work.

i like seagal's movies.. i mean you dont watch a seagal movie to get a great story or great acting.. you watch them to watch him kick ass
that being said his newest moive urban justice was a pretty good revenge movie.. where he had to get justice for his son who was a cop being killed
also im not sure if i believe that laz.. but Jenny McCarthy is a whore.. so its expected that she would be asked questions like that.. i mean she has posed naked right?

Sometimes his movies are unintentionally funny. In "Hard to Kill", he suddenly had a grenade in his hand, which wasn't present in the last shot, which he used to blow up an enemy.

im not sure if i believe that laz.. It doesn't really matter whether you believe it or not. I didn't mention you at all. And if you're defending Seagal or his actions, you are basically defending it if anyone were to do that. Besides, McCarthy has no reason to make things like this up. If you think she does, you may have issues with women. Jenny McCarthy is a whore.. And my suspicions are confirmed. Calling a woman a whore is hateful, regardless of whether she posed nude for a few pictures / calendars / magazines, or not. The fact is, that isn't even 1/4th of her career, and you're lame enough to make it sound like it's her whole career. How dumb can you possibly be? Since you apparently didn't know, she is a well-known physical comedian (which by the way is well-known in acting circles to be some of the hardest comedy to perform; it can't be learned, a person either "has it" or they don't, and Jenny was very successful with it in her post-Playboy years): She not only had a hit show on Mtv, but later got her own show, a hilarious half-hour variety program, The Jenny McCarthy Show: Some clips from her Sketch-Comedy show (sorry about the a/v quality) : www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbudliGmvLw (2:43) - this was one of the more successful sketches. When I was in 7th grade, the entire class (my homeroom) was talking about it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaTm1TtRK2UJenny and friends interview Ben Folds Five, they perform "One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces" (4:40) And she is a legitimate actress as well. Perhaps best known for roles in Scary Movie 3, The Perfect You, and Scream 3, she was so good and respected by the pros in Hollywood, she was given a role in a scene opposite CHRISTOPHER WALKEN in Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead. And is now a responsible Mother, a reknowned and wildly successful Author, and has had a Best-Selling Book. Which lead her to write 3 more. Just because she is well-known for being sexy does not mean she's a whore. And you should be ashamed of yourself for saying that. Even when she chose to do Playboy, she was still a credible, working Model. Not just a nude magazine girl. She never went into the actual world of porn, anyway. She is instead a woman in a long line of many great celebrities who did topless photos as a way to get into the business - including Madonna and Vanessa Williams. And there's clearly no shame in doing topless or nude photos when several stars do them, after they become famous. Including: Drew Barrymore, Christina Aguilera, Demi Moore, and many others.
