I seem to be running low on good horror movies to watch. I have a list together, but I'd love some input to expand it. I've seen most of the top ten that I'd imagine you'll come up with, so I'm thinking you try to think of more obscure titles and throw em out here. Here's where the list is right now:
Re-Animator Beyond Inferno Mother of Tears Don't Look Now Open Water
Ginger Snaps
Boo (supposed to be terrible, but for some reason I want to see it)
EDIT> O.K. the video store only had Boo, so I saw that. I really wish I had that 90 minutes of my eternal soul back.
In return for your input, I offer you a suggestion of my own: "Let the right one in". Came out last October, the version I saw was in the original Swedish with English subtitles. I really enjoyed it, hope you will too.

I'll tell you straight up, nick, if you haven't seen re-animator, then you can't count yourself a horror movie fan. The same goes for ginger snaps. These movies are must sees. Go and get them both tomorrow. Then watch them. Then be cool. Doesn't that feel nice? Cool is awesome!

Necro, let me give you some input as why Re-Animator is as of yet unseen by my eyes:
"Enough scares for three movies. You'll be jumping out of your seat!" - Stuart Gordon, Director of "Re-Animator"
I just copied that off the back of the box to Boo.
That being said it and Ginger Snaps are 1 and 2 for me if you both think they're so good. Thanks.

Not having seen Boo, but hearing about it, that sounds like an unfortunate quote. I could see how that might turn you off. Honestly, give it a shot. It may just redeem him a bit for you.

I think those are all pretty good. But I didn't like Re-Animator. Not at all.
So, as usual, it depends on your tastes.

Re-Animator just had me laughing out loud. This movie MST3K's itself. The corrupt Neurosurgeon comes to West's lab, and points to the microscope: "Ah! I recognize this." Then looks into the microscope and says "It is clear, we are both scientists." It's like I'm watching Tim & Eric on Adult Swim or something.
EDIT> That being said, I really do have a hard time siding with the bandwagon that says it was intended as a comedy.

It's a sci-fi comedy, which I usually like even less than pure sci-fi.

I saw it back about 4 years ago when I was watching all the horror masterpieces and very famous horror films from the 70's and 80's. Just to see whether I would like it or not.
It's probably a really good movie, but I've always hated it. It just doesn't work for me. At all.

Saw Ginger Snaps as well, which I think I would have liked a lot more if they didn't hold my hand scene by scene. As far as a teen horror goes, though, it was pretty good I thought.

What do you mean "hold your hand"?

I mean that there is no subtlety whatsoever, and things that could remain implicit are made explicit. For me, the movie went and made sure there was nothing you would miss. A rephrase of that being that there is nothing to gain from a second viewing that was absent from the first.

Okay. I'm not sure I liked it either.
Though, it was still an absolute masterpiece. Without a doubt the greatest North American horror film to come from this awful decade.

^^^ all of that is in your opinion right?

Of course not.
Can you produce something smarter and better than Ginger Snaps that's been made this decade? Think about that, T - smarter and better. Ginger Snaps is the kind of movie that makes all others have to stand up and start thinking about things like characterization, acting, storytelling. Things that are always neglected in the remakes and cheap shit we get now (all theatrically released, mind you).
If you can point to something smarter, than we'll talk about that. But honestly, I can't see anything better.

im sure i can come up with a good amount of DTV movies that i think are smarter and better (not that you would have seen any of them), but a movie being smarter and better is all about ones opinion

And let's not forget, we're talking teen horror and high school films.
