I don't see why it's considered a remake, since a hockey-masked Jason will be the killer. I consider it a sequel.
Anyway, I have high hopes for it.

If it isn't Jason's mother doing the killing, it's not a remake.

it seems the blood and gore fx will be done by Scott Stoddard
he did the fx on the TCM remake..while that movie may not have been great the blood and gore fx were pretty damn good and i would imagine he only got better so there may be hope for the movie.. at least in the gore department

The only reason the series became popular was for the inventive kills, and gore. No one watches a Friday the 13th for the plot, or acting. Good gore = good Friday the 13th movie, remake, sequel or whatever.
It does suck that Kane Hodder isn't Jason. He's the only person that's played Jason, that actually enjoys the role. Doesn't seem right that they keep giving it to someone else.

However, I think it's time for a change. We need a new Richard Brooker. I loved his portrayal of Jason Voorhees in #3. He actually scared me in that movie.

the only name i recognize is willa ford.. and that was for some song she did.. not sure if she was ever even in a movie I believe her most famous song was "I Wanna Be Bad." A true relic that dates back to the sort of Legally Blonde period in pop music, when girls like Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, and Hoku first got noticed - the sort of 2nd wave of Pop Music Princesses. I think it's pretty obvious that this movie is going to suck a lot. Because there is no style to horror today. So- count on the "new look" of Jason being a pisspoor 2nd rate version of the "new look" of Leatherface. They'll probably want his suit / attire to look more like what he wore in parts 7 and 8, because of course they go more naturally with today's "gritty" look of horror (like someone took something out of a garbage can and wiped it off). Plus, it's trademark in a Friday the 13th movie that you'll see him walking around before catching up to a victim or finding a victim to focus on. Remember? Parts 6, 7, and 8 have shots of him walking around looking for somebody. I don't foresee this new movie doing that. And that's why we love Jason. Am I right? That's one reason- the movies made a dorky thing that he did look awesome. I think in Part 2 and 3, you don't really see him stalking that much. You see his feet only when we're (as the camera- in Black Christmas / Halloween mode) following someone else walking in the woods. But the later films were about filling the demand for more Jason onscreen. Plus- how the hell are they going to match Harry Manfredini's soundtrack score? They're just going to rip-off TCM'03 or Saw or some shit like that.

Here's my wishlist for the upcoming film
1. Keep the original score 2. Keep the hockey mask 3. Never, and I mean never, ever, ever turn Jason into a robot again 4. Don't give him a human side 5. CGI is out of the question
If they follow those, I'm happy. I'll still see the movie, though. No matter what.

Did anyone say for sure or not if it was going to be R-rated?

I don't think there's anything official yet, but I'm 95% sure it will be R, considering the huge success of the TCM and Halloween remakes.
Plus, they just signed on a special effects guy. Platinum Dunes will get a hard time from fans if they made it PG-13.

nothing is official but it has got to be rated R.. i know alot of remakes get cheesy out with the pg-13 ratings but there is no way they can do it for this one..
but really i dont care either way about the movie.. im not a huge F13 fan.. i have really stopped watching big budget movies all together..there are so many weird gems in the low budget scene that thats all i watch anymore.. and of course movies from the 80's.. the best decade for horror

I'm going to have to disagree with that last statement. To me, the 70's was the greatest decade for horror. Wes Craven made two classics of the genre, "Last house on the Left" and "Hills Have Eyes". Plus, Tobe Hooper unleashed "Texas Chain Saw Massacre", which is one of the highest grossing low budget films of all time.
Let's not forget about "Exorcist", "Dawn of the Dead", and "Halloween"
80's horror was good, but let's face it...it was pretty much just slasher films. The 70's had a lot of diversity in their horror outings.

nah the 80's wasnt just slashers.. there are so many bizarre movies from the 80's.. one would be the movie that shunty's screen name is after.. i mean movies like society you just dont see those types of movies and never will.. only the 80's!!
the 80's was the best decade for movies period.. not just horror but overall

Let me put it this way...the 70's was the most influential decade for horror.

I am actually glad that they are ditching Jason's mom as the killer.A 50 year old June-Cleaver killer is surprising but not very plausible.(How did she hang the one dude on the door with the arrows in him?) I'd keep her as a supporting character, maybe helping Jason but that's about it. I agree about the 80's T. I also found the new Leatherface to be quite menacing.Add the mask from TCM3...perfect. In TCM2, Leatherface looked like he should be standing in a soupline.

I'm going to agree with Piggsy on which decade is superior. The 1980's was amazing "Fun" but when you want something more serious... The 1980's had almost no masterpieces. But look at the 1970's. More Horror Masterpieces were made in this decade than even in the 1930's.
THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is nothing short of "The" Greatest Horror Film of the 1970's. It's power is so grand, it's shine so blinding, it's edge still as sharp after all these years.
SUSPIRIA - nothing like it came before and nothing has surpassed its' surrealism. Every scene is simply perfection!
CARRIE - jaw dropping in the mere scope of it's magnificence. There has never been a character portrait in the genre as amazing as this one. Even outside of the "Satan" sub-genre.
and then, naturally DAWN OF THE DEAD and HALLOWEEN get a lot of praise. But, without AIP (American International Pictures - the famous 1970's Horror Studio)- what would horror be? They unleashed upon us a slew of the most influencial and extraordinarily brilliant horror films of the 1970's. SISTERS (1973), THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT (1972), and DERANGED (1972/3/4). And of course, Joe Dante's somewhat undervalued masterpiece PIRANHA. Cronenberg's RABID. Argento's DEEP RED.
You can set-up any line-up from the 1980's that you want, and it won't come close to outdoing this line-up of 1970's films.

Let's put our thinking caps on, T! Right off the hop you have the first Nightmare film and the 1st Friday film. Will report back later. Friday the 13th was hugely flawed. And Nightmare on Elm Street, though ambitious, imaginative, memorable, and having a lot of good qualities, is no real masterpiece. The Blob remake which is a CLASSIC We keep hearing you say that. But, do you honestly think it can stand up to the true sci-fi horror masterpiece of the 1980's, Killer Klowns from Outer Space? we had Maniac and Prowler.. which werent the best movies but had some great FX by savini Actually, they were terrible movies. Mostly they were about killing women as viciously and violently as possible. That's one of the huge drawbacks of 1980's horror. society like i already mentioned just a weird freaky movie which you cant find anything else like it anywhere Society has its' good qualities (and I like most of the movie quite a bit personally) - but it's really a bad movie. Try again, guys.
