I just finished watching a replay of Bush's speech in Australia at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Sydney Australia. Needless to say, I'm outraged yet again at how he represented Americans to the rest of the world.
He started off by mistakingly referring to APEC as OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries): "Mr. Prime Minister, thank you for the introduction," he told Prime Minister John Howard. "Thank you for being such a fine host for the OPEC Summit." - The audience of several hundred erupted with laughter.
He then went on to completely disgrace the more than 1500 Australian troops serving in and around Iraq by calling them Austrian: "...........especially last year, when Prime Minister Howard made a much appreciated trip to Iraq, to vist all of the Austrian troops that are stationed there." - The audience made a very audible collective "groan." Remember, this summit was taking place in Australia!
And as if that wasn't enough, he then had to make his usual "grand" exit. Upon finishing his speech, Bush took the wrong way off-stage and, looking perplexed, came literally within a foot or so from walking straight off the edge of the stage. He had to be re-directed by Mr. Howard to a center-stage exit. But not before a veteran White House correspondent seized the opportunity to ask Bush whether there had been any new message in his speech. Apparently misunderstanding the question, he bristled and asked, “Haven’t you been listening to my past speeches?” before turning away.
A lot of people laugh when Dubya stumbles through a speech, mutilating the English language. And don't get me wrong, I'm chuckling and gaffawing right along with them. But much more than feelings of a humorous nature, I feel embarrassed, disgusted, and ashamed. You see, countries all over the world are watching this baffoon too. And frankly, it friggin' pisses me off that this jack-off is representing the rest of us like that to the rest of the world. No wonder foreigners think what they do of us. I don't blame them. If I was them and was watching this moron conduct himself the way he has, I'd be asking myself "Wow, I guess it is true what they say about Americans. I mean, look who they elected to represent and lead their country!" You know, it used to piss me off royally that he spends all that time down at his "ranch" in Texas. But you know what? On second thought, go ahead Mr. Bush. Spend the entire time left in your lame-duck presidency down at "Prairie Chapel Ranch" down in Crawford. At least that way I don't have to see you, the rest of the public doesn't have to see you, and most importantly; the rest of the world doesn't have to see you.............
On behalf of myself and all Americans, I'd like to apologize to you for the audacious behavior of Mr. Bush Australia. Lord knows you won't be hearing it from him.........

Well, hopefully they're smart enough to just listen to the people telling us all the 2000 & 2004 elections were Stolen by the Vote Counters and the Electronic Voting System is a complete Fraud. I still believe that. To my grave. But as far as Bush as a symbol of America... I don't have that much pride in America or my being an American. I'm grateful for what little opportunities and benefits I get, sure. But, that's like God or the Devil's fault. My parents were more responsible for that than I was. I didn't choose to be American. If I could choose, I think I'd rather be Canadian. On some days, even British - than American. Anywhere that's more tolerant, socially, than America. There are a lot of stupid Americans in this country. I mean... some people had to have voted Bush in the first place or there's no way they could have covered up the real winner. At least he represents those people.

At least he represents those people. Very true. The "values" crowd in the "heartland" and "proud South" should feel like shmucks. In theory, he does represent their system of blind belief and self righteousness. The sad fact of reality however, is that these very same folks voted completely against their own interests. Bush doesn't care about their working class way of life. He exists only to cater to his corporate masters, who, have absolutely no interest in the middle class other than to exploit them for cold hard consumer cash. All the while demanding that they carry the majority of the tax burden. It's disgusting. Oh yeah, and I also agree that voter fraud DOES exist. Especially in the '00 election. The way that counties in Florida were gerrymandered to exclude black folks was, and is, appalling to say the least. But Republicans did as they always do when they're caught in a f*ck-up: They used it to their advantage. They used people's concerns about voter fraud (which they committed mind you) to get people on board with the electronic Diebold voting machines. This ensured a much easier way of manipulating voting returns because there is now much less of a paper trail to point toward any devious activities. May Karl Rove burn in hell..........

Bush is - a failed businessman. Given the Keys to the Country after not even being able to run a business properly! The highest honor that can be bestowed on a single American, and he got it for free, never did a single thing to earn it. Just because his backers were filthy rich...
About the voting fraud too - America just doesn't care. The people who care the most are affected the most by the hopelesssness of the situation. They think it won't make a difference. And they may be right.

I can't speak for all Southerners here, but I find it really sad that most of my relatives still vote republican. Back during the civil war our ancestors either tried to stay out of it, or supported the Union(and therefore the Republican party). There was a very strong abolitionist sentiment in that area too.
Over the years parents raised their children to continue voting republican, because that's what the family had always been. Sometime during the 20th century though the Democrats and Republicans both flip-flopped. The Democrats of today come closer to having the same values as the Republicans of the 1860s--not exactly though.
The republicans of today, and all their religious right rhetoric definitely do not represent the values of the people of my grand parents' generation, and back. It was really my mom's generation(maybe slightly before) that turned into rabid fundamentalists, and outright racists.
I can respect the religious values of the older people (except my grandma's sister who was a holy roller, and black sheep of her family) from my childhood, because they were generally very pleasant, tolerant people. Some of my mom's cousins though...pure scum bags.
My grand parents voted democrat ever since Kennedy. My grandma doesn't usually have anything bad to say about anyone, but if you mention the republicans to her, you are going to get an ear-full.

If I had to choose between Dems or Reps I'd definitely choose the Dems. But that's just because they're the lesser of two evils. If Reps actually stood for what the original ideas of their party from long ago I'd probably never vote anything but Rep. But unfortunately we all know they sold their souls to the Christian Conservatives back when Reagan won election.
All this being said, I'd hate Dubya whether he was Rep, Dem, or anything else. His affiliation politically has nothing to do with it.

Rachel Talalay, director of Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare and Ghost in the Machine, once said about New Line Cinema, that in the late '70s and early 1980's, New Line was doing what she called "Bah Mitzva Present Movies" - giving people who worked for the company the chance to make / direct a movie just because they were like family. That's what Dubya is. He was given the Presidency by people who picked him because he was the All-American Boy type. On the surface. We all know though that underneath that surface, he is a failure at everything he ever tried, a coward, and had a cocaine addiction some time ago. He really is a lot like Patrick Bateman, among several other horror movie characters. He could do no wrong, they'd let him off the hook for anything. He has IMMUNITY. If he were to come out and call all women "bitches" or black guys "niggers," he would have the entire staff of Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Bruce Willis, and most likely a few Black Republicans completely defend him. The man can't be ARRESTED. He could kill someone. Hell, even his daughters could kill someone! The distant cousin of Donald Rumsfeld could kill someone - and get away with it.
No crime too far or serious anymore.

I think he was elected because of the dirty ties between the corrupt corporate structure of our country and their "pocketed" lawmakers in Washington. Bush is the perfect leader for corporate American because he lets everybody else do his thinking for him, and his family's wealth is directly linked to and dependant on corporate dollars. Namely the oil industry. They knew that if they could get this lap dog into the oval office that he'd do everything in his power to make sure they get anything and everything they desire. It's the same releationship between a corporate lobbyist and a Senator that's been "bought." It's just on a much grander scale. In other words, the CEO's just cut out the middle man, and now basically have complete control of our country. Can anyone say FACISM? The saddest part is, that the working class majority in this country would never elect anyone that they knew had such strong vested interests in corporate gain, but those same people were also dumb enough to fall for the "I'm a regular guy" shtick and elected a president that they felt would look out for them. When in fact, they essentially voted against their own interests. In closing I don't know which is sadder; corporations running our country, or people actually letting them do it by electing their chosen errand boy.
It's all part of what I like to call the Circle of Manipulation:
1. Get people dumb. Americans are obsessed with television, movies, and celebrities. Guess who pays the television and movie execs. salaries? Bingo, Corporations! Thus, corporations not only control information on tv, but also it's content. They want "stupid" programming that people will get hooked on. That way they not only get dumber, but also are exposed to their advertising while getting dumber. Being obsessed with celebrities means people get obsessed with buying crap and try to live like a "star." They mortgage away their values, dignity, and brain in order to seem rich and important. Time to buy some stuff and make the corporations richer!
2. Spend your money, so we can spend it for you. Now that they've got you distracted and materialistic, they can get your money. Americans are obsessed with spending money, and lots of it. They take out loans they can't afford and finance everything else through credit cards. While you're going into debt, you're making the corporations wealth beyond imagination. And what do you buy when your that rich? Politicians of course! Since they have all the campaign money (from YOUR pocket mind you), they only give it to candidates that agree to work for them once they're elected. Since the public is still stupid from all that corporate marketing and entertainment, they elect the corrupt candidates because they're too damn dumb to know any better. Hello Bush. Twice.
3. Do thy bidding slave! Now their candidate is in office and can make sure the only laws that are passed are ones that will benefit their corporate masters. This of course makes them EVEN MORE money. Meanwhile the middle class gets poorer and carries even more of the tax burden. Your interests NO LONGER matter! But hey you don't care. You've got an SUV and 200 channels of cable! Those things are much too important to be worrying about your rights and liberties slowly, and quietly being taken away, right?
4. The circle is complete. Congratulations Joe Six-pack! Now the whole process can start over. Only now they've got more money. Which means more control. Over you. Now they can just buy the tv network. Or hey, maybe even start their own (Fox News, anyone?)! Now they've got more influence in your daily life. That means more mind control for them, less brain for you. Hooray! Now you're even dumber, which means you'll spend even more, and think even less. Which means they can get even higher numbers of even more corruptable politicians into office. Isn't this great!? Now even more corporate friendly laws get passed and they make even more money! You, of course lose more of your money and even more of your rights. Now the circle's complete again and they ready themselves to f*ck you harder, deeper, and faster. It just keeps going around and around like that, and everytime it does, the rest of us fall deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole. So keep watching their information, keep giving them all your cash, and keep electing people to help them do it. Just don't be pissed when you wake up broke, freedomless, and screwed for life. Makes you wanna watch some 'Desperate Housewives' and go shop at Walmart, huh?

Actually... I buy from Wal-Mart all the time.
But I would never watch Desperate Housewives. I'm strictly a Sex In the City guy.

This almost sounds like a Capitalism versus Communism issue. We're Americans- it's hard to process all of this when we all pretty much grew up as spoiled children who all loved consumerism.
But yeah, I see the social decay everywhere I look. I think a lot of movies and shows have responded to this issue. Not much can be done, but at least people still fight and argue like they care more about people than things.

Just to be clear I don't have a problem with Capitalism. Actually, I don't even have a problem with Communism either. I guess the point I was trying to make with my theory above is that I have a problem with Corporate fat-cats using Capitalism as a tool to numb the critical thinking abilities of the rest of us to keep all the power and decision making to themselves. When that happens, it's borderline Facism. I just don't see enough people who are still based in reality enough to at least think about these types of things.
