The age-old battle: Which makes the best pet - Cats or Dogs? Which do you side with and why? - I go with the doggies. Hands down. No contest. Dogs are generally more affectionate, fun, glad to see you, and loyal. Cats tend to be more reclusive, snooty, independent, and boring. Go dogs!

I have a dog and a cat, and while the cat has his moments, most of the time he's a right little bastard. My dog, on the other hand, is always happy and cheerful, and willing to cheer you up when you've had a bad day. So, dogs are indeed better pets.

^^^ Damn straight! Dogs rule, cats drool! I forget what movie that line's from. Anybody remember? Anyways, I also don't like that with most cats you have to keep a litter box in the house. Friggin' gross!

"Dogs rule cats drool" I think that quote is from Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey.

I like both. Currently I just have a cat, and she's more affectionate and playful than any dog I've ever had. She's a manx though, and they have been nicknamed dog-cats because of how dog-like they act. I also like ferrets.

"Dogs rule cats drool" I think that quote is from Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey. Ahh, methinks you are right! Is that the movie where Michael J. Fox does the voice of one of the dogs?

Surprisingly, I actually liked the cat in that movie. It looked like a big fuzzy caterpillar.

I like cats better. And there are a lot of reasons why:
A) they do not go chasing after SKUNKS
B) they don't bark up the neighborhood - which has been a problem with all of the family dogs I ever had
C) they don't whine when their favorite person is gone
D) they don't pee in the house if you leave a door or window open or put them out at night
E) they know instinctively how to use the litter box
F) when I yell at a cat to stop scratching something, they actually stop. When I yell at a dog to stop barking, they don't
G) I've never owned a cat that got hit by a car, I have however owned a dog that got hit by a car
H) cats don't beg nearly as often as dogs do for food, and when they do, it's only when you have meat or tuna
I) you ever hear the story about the cat that walked across all those states and spent days walking to track down its' owner(s)? How's that for loyalty? You forget or lose a dog, they're gone for good. Unless you leave a poster with the dog's picture on it and a big, fat reward
J) some dogs are incredibly sensitive to noise. They get scared at the smallest sound and run off with their tail between their legs. It's actually very annoying
K) I have a cat that will scratch on a scratching post if I so much as point to it. I also pointed at a motion-sensory lamp that was on once and the cat rubbed up against it until it turned off. SWEAR TO GOD! Of course, it took her 2 minutes of me pointing to know what I was talking about, but a dog would have just sat there, stuck its' tongue out, and started whining.

L. You left this one out. A dog can be trained to hunt with you. A cat is going to hunt for you, whether you want it to or not. Cats apparently have some sort of concept of paying rent. A dog that hasn't been trained to fetch prey for you, is likely to snap at you if you try to take it. Cats just leave it discreetly on your doorstep when you aren't looking.

That's actually a bad thing, when what they leave is a mouse or chipmunk they've killed. Sprawled out on a porch...

It's the thought that counts though. Kind of like when your granparents show up smiling ear to ear at christmas with an armload of present, and it turns out to be only clothes--well it's really your grandma, because your grandpa later pulls you aside, hands you 50 bucks, and tells you to go buy something you actually want. That's how cats are too. They really think they are doing you a huge favor by killing you a rat.

Ha... I never had grandparents like that. But I didn't mind. They didn't give me anything (well, on my Father's side, they didn't), and in return, I wished for them to not die. They did anyway, but... thought that counts. Actually though, I think they did give me a lot of money once to take care of their dog, which was fun. But, whatever...
