I have to go with the 80's. Those make up the majority of my collection. Don't know much from the 60's, the 70's had some groundbreaking stuff, the 90's stunk, and now it looks like things are looking up (be it certain remakes or using old formulas). Anyone else?

As much as I dig the 80's, it's gotta be the 70's. You got some of the best, worst, and weirdest Horror flicks ever coming out in that decade.

I'll go with the 1980's as well. Not because they necessarily had the best movies ever in horror, but because even the bad horror movies of the 80's were still good in a humorous way, but bad horror in other decades is just plain unwatchable. Basically, I just like the certain "charm" the horror movies of the 80's had. Looking back on that decade, horror movies are really one of the few things the 80's had going for it!

^^ yea just the whole 80's feel was great...even most of the bad movies you could still find something good about them..even if it was something dumb and cheesy

80s here too, but I'm liking the 50s more and more. I guess I'd say the 80s were the best for cheese, and gore, and the 50s were the best for plot and acting. Then again no one did cheese quiet like Ed Wood, and he was from the 50s era.
I've always had a soft spot for silent films too. Very little since seems to have the magical feeling of Nosferatu, or Faust. People seem to have this attitude that silent = inferior, but watch those two and tell me who has ever topped their atmosphere. Argento comes the closest, but he's a cult figure, and not really representative of the mainstream.

Well, I guess that depends on what you think made it the best decade. The 1970's had more masterpieces than the 1980's. But perhaps the 1980's had more second-rate movies.
The 70's had: 01. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 02. Carrie 03. Dawn of the Dead 04. Halloween 05. Suspiria 06. The Last House on the Left 07. Deep Red 08. Alien 09. Deranged 10. Black Christmas 11. Piranha 12. Rabid 13. Bava's Twitch of the Death Nerve / Bay of Blood 14. Phantasm 15. It's Alive 16. The Hills Have Eyes
The 80's had: 01. The Evil Dead 02. An American Werewolf in London 03. A Nightmare on Elm Street 04. Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer 05. Creepshow 06. The Howling 07. Child's Play 08. Hellraiser 09. Killer Klowns from Outer Space 10. Tenebre 11. Bad Taste 12. Opera 13. The Fly 14. Gremlins 15. Re-Animator 16. Brain Damage 17. Videodrome 18. The Shining 19. Q the Winged Serpent 20. Poltergeist 21. Fright Night

Brain Damage and Killer Klowns are wicked movies (nice picks Laz)! I really love the metal-sound from the 80's which make the movies more enjoyable for me.To me, the music or score in movies can make or break them. I agree the 70's had a lot more masterpieces or trendsetters. You can definitely notice the change from the decades though. The only thing that made me pissed about Texas was how long they let that Hitchhiker stay in the van for.Any normal person would stop the van and toss that goof out.Franklin too!

Thank you. And that's the thing about the '80s, was that even horror-comedies were straight-forward offerings to the genre. In the '70s, things were much more serious. I can't say which is definitely better. I certainly enjoy the '80s a lot more than the '70s. But it's almost like a best of the best versus. The first 5 on my list of the 1970's horror movies beats the first 5 on my list of the 1980's. But the '80s were definitely more fun.

T, that is one movie in a sea of (probably) hundreds. You may like it a lot, but it's not that great.

You're right- I haven't seen it before. But I'm smart enough to know that when 2 people say it's one of the best of the decade... You can finish this one yourself, can't you?

Why? Because I WATCH a movie before I pass judgment upon it? Or maybe because I choose to talk with my mouth and vocal chords instead of my ass and colon? Call up your mommy and ask her for some cash so you can go out this week and buy yourself a clue...................

Why? Because I WATCH a movie before I pass judgment upon it? You are so beyond pathetic, you lost pathetic a hundred miles back. You are a little worm. You're a jackass because you forgot what I said. My list is for the greatest, most influencial, and most eternal horror movies of the decade. I didn't say The Blob was good or not. DO YOU HAVE WAX IN YOUR EYES? Or maybe because I choose to talk with my mouth and vocal chords instead of my ass and colon? No, it's definitely your ass you're talking from. Call up your mommy and ask her for some cash so you can go out this week and buy yourself a clue........ That's the perfect advice for you. Stop pretending it's me you're thinking about.
