Compared to a lot of Wes Cravens movies from the 90s forward, it's a masterpiece.

A lot of people enjoyed this movie a lot. I wasn't one of them. Then again, I've never been too high on Wes Craven flicks.

The first time I watched it... it was kind of like watching Wheat Bread. I sat there and it didn't respond. It went right through me. There certainly was a lot going on, but none of it had any real appeal. Then I got it on DVD assuming it was a good idea to buy because I'm definitely a Craven fan and because... at least it's a crazy ass movie. Of course, if you want crazier- see Nothing but Trouble. But when I watched it on DVD, it was literally like being on a rollercoaster. In terms of visual design and all that, I feel like Craven finally developed a style. It tried to be too funny. But at least it provides a hell of a viewing. It's a 4-star viewing, even if the movie's more like 2-stars.

Everytime I see it, I can't help but think there's a GREAT movie in there..........somewhere. Just feels like it was hastily thrown together. I don't know, maybe Wes had to make a deadline and had to just get the thing done. One movie that I wouldn't mind seeing a remake of.

The social commentary was fairly weak. That's always the thing that takes the most time to plan on a film, the element that always has to be handled the most delicately to make it work.
It's obviously due for a re-watch, but the last time I saw it- I was more than satisfied.
