8. It was better than I expected, especially because Rob made a completely different movie without ripping off of the original. Plus, they reinvented Michael's mask flawlessly. The acting was above average, especially from Daeg Faerch and Malcolm McDowell. However, some parts were a little cheesy (that scene with the song "Love Hurts"...You'll see what I mean).

I've thought about it a lot, and now I would give it a 5. There were just too many flaws for me to give it an 8.

BTW, how was Sheri Moon's performance? And I hear that Brad Dourif plays the sherriff. I love his voice over work in the Child's Play series and his portrayal of Doc Cochran in Deadwood. So maybe I'll actually have to go check it out.

Sheri Moon's performance was great. She was believable and serious in her role as Michael's mother. Yes, she was a stripper, but was doing her best to support her children. Her reaction, and subsequent reactions, to the murders were fantastically done. She's really evolving as an actress.
As for Brad Dourif, he tackled the role well. Nothing stood out as being great in his performance, but his distinctive voice and right amount of emotion worked well for the character of Leigh Brackett. I liked his chemistry with Malcom McDowell, especially.

I didn't think it was too bad. Michael appeared very badass and gritty but was still believable as a person. I couldn't help but feel bad for him as a kid . I'd say 6.5/10, eh 7/10.

I haven't seen it yet actually, but from all the reviews I've read I'm sure I'll like it. I'm gonna wait for the DVD though.

I tried to go see this a week or two ago with a friend, but it didn't end up working out. I think I'm going to wait for it to come out on DVD, now. But, I think it looks half decent.

Our city's biggest newspaper gave this film the lowest rating ever recorded...0 out of five! I seen this movie opening day and thought that it was awesome. My only complaint was Dr.Loomis but after Donald Pleasance, the bar is pretty high. 8 out of 10!
p.s. I wrote this critic back a nice, non-vulgar response. She was using reference points that were totally false from the original as well as Rob's other movies.

i just saw it. it was really bad. piggsy's totally off on giving it any credit at all. it was almost 100% the writing. stupid. the word fuck can be used a lot in clever ways, but in this movie it felt like a middle school kid using it. sheri moon zombie also didn't have the acting chops to pull her character off.

First of all- it's a Rob Zombie film. That itself kind of explains how good it is.
Second- it's a remake to one of the most original, stylish, masterfully-directed horror films of the greatest decade in horror history. Was a remake necessary? Fuck no!
Third- they completely re-write Michael Myers' domestic situation and change his family's class. By making them lower-class instead of middle-class, the whole point of the opening from the original film is lost. It's about: this can happen to you, you who think you're so safe in pristine-clean white-bread Middle America. Evil is everywhere and always lurking around the corner.
Fourth- by giving Michael a method to his madness, they also lost the idea that he was the boogeyman. An embodiment of fear itself. A blank slate, a shadow and a shape in the darkness. Now he's little more than The Undertaker from WWF/WWE/WCW wrestling. Look at him in the scenes at Smith's Grove as an adult- he's clearly doing The Undertaker. Now, pro wrestling is pro-wrestling. Let them have their fun but KEEP IT OUT OF HORROR.
Fifth- the child version of Michael looks twisted (like a kid devotee of Slipknot!), not angelic anymore- which was part of the shocking reveal of the clown mask in the first movie. What kind of child could murder someone like that? He looked confused, like he was possessed while he did it and was just waking up from a sleep.
Oh, and those are just the flaws from the WRITING standpoint. I haven't even touched the final film itself and I'm not going to. As for the language, again: Rob Zombie movie. You're telling me you haven't seen The Devil's Rejects? In real life, the guy actually knows a few words other than "fuck" but you wouldn't know it from watching his movies. Apparently, the guy is a huge fan of The Blair Witch Project and independent films from the 1990's, so he wants to make us watch that kind of thing over and over and over again.

You actually watched it Laz? Bull-poop.
I'm glad that they made him really big, especially since they didn't touch on the whole "Samhain" cult or whatever they were. Ken Foree's cameo was also pretty cool.

You actually watched it Laz? Bull-poop. That's right - my descriptions above are not from Rob Zombie's movie, but instead they're of an episode of The Golden Girls.

What's it supposed to mean anyway? Is it from a song? It sounds like it's from a song.

Blanche was the old "whore" character from Golden Girls. Rose"The Swede" is up there too.
