Oh my god it's true! This should be the official sign to Hollywood that the remake trend has gotta stop!

Well... it's not exactly like Troll was sacred or anything. It was amusing, had good effects, and was neat / slightly edgy stuff for the kiddies. Hardly a masterpiece. A footnote though, John Buechler will direct it, and says he wants to keep it dark and menacing. We'll see... Hopefully he's not thinking Pirates of the Carribean dark. Because that was not exactly what I'd call dark.

If I had to choose a lil' guy horror film to remake, I'd choose Critters. Those little buggers were a lot of fun.

I've never seen the original, so I'll definately see this remake.

I would recommend the original. It had some pretty decent moments. Definitely more of a creature transformation-FX film than a creatures on the rampage film. It was one of the movies where just the look of the creatures was supposed to make the viewer recoil. Instead of something like Ghoulies 2 where it focused a little more on the death scenes. In fact, technically I don't think there are any death / kill scenes in Troll. It's really more of a fantasy film. But it does have some good, creepy moments. And it takes advantage of the gross-out effect of the creature-horror sub-genre.

Sounds like my kind of movie. What is the sequel like? I heard it was really bad.

I LOVE the sequel. But it was really Campy and Cheaply Produced. And that's why people don't like it. Personally, I don't watch movies that are clearly silly to be impressed by special effects or death scenes or that sort of thing. And yet, Troll 2 REALLY impressed me. I thought it had a lot of imagination.
Anyway, long story short: you have to grit your teeth and put up with the Infamous and Historically bad acting to really get the most of the movie's absurdity. Because it's first and foremost: a sort of surrealist absurdist piece. And it's so incredibly unique.
For the average person, I would just say: It's Weird. Really Weird. Some people don't like that. I do.

I like it when movies rely on imagination. Just the other day I saw a double feature DVD with Troll/Troll 2. Next time I see that I'll buy it.

But just be forewarned: everything everyone says about Troll 2 is pretty much true.
The acting is probably worse than in any other film that most people have ever seen. But to me, that never bothered me because I thought the music and the imagery of the film helps to keep your mind off that enough.
The special effects are bad and the Goblins in the movie (yeah, it's not about Trolls and has nothing to do with the 1st movie) are wearing some of the cheapest looking costumes ever seen. But you don't see that much of them. I mean, it would have bothered me if we saw them in a cave or something, some magical world like The Dark Crystal or something... If the movie tried to show their "kingdom."
The movie itself is about a Family of Humans and a Family of Goblins (who look like Humans) going through a Family-Exchange Program. The Human Family thinks it's just a Culture Switch thing for fun, so that they being a Suburban Family can experience the Small Country/Farm Town Family life. But the town they go to is very strange.
When I said before that it was unique, I really meant it. It isn't like any other film you've ever seen before. What I liked and remembered about it was that it was very bizarre. And, if truth be told, creepy and disturbing. If you're willing to look past the cheapness and the bad acting, you'll see the surreality.
