i forgot about Anger Management .. that was prob his only other unfunny movie..other then that all his other movies are pure gold in terms of comedy.. "Pure gold"? If by "gold," you mean "gunk," yeah. Adam Sandler is still to this day, in terms of comedy : Unmolded Clay. His movies are almost completely unfunny. And in fact, his best movies succeed not in terms of being funny, but instead by their "feel good" merit. Yeah, most of his stuff are "good feeling" movies. By the end of Big Daddy, it's hard to walk out of the movie going - "what a horrible waste of time." It sure as hell isn't funny. But it's positive, upbeat, and optimistic. Other than that, his movies succeed because of his supporting cast. Especially, and surprisingly with some of these players - Drew Barrymore, Rob Schneider, Kathy Bates (Waterboy), Steve Buscemi, Bradley Whitford (Billy Madison), and Conchata Ferrell (Deeds). Because you know what - they actually know how to play different characters. Adam Sandler's characters are all the same. But his guest players are usually well-cast. Schneider's never been funnier than in Sandler's movies, Barrymore's never been more sweet, and though the other higher-class actors are clearly slumming to do movies with him, they don't look down on the material. Which helps it only slightly. guess you just dont like stupid humor.. Stupid humor used to be funny. When it was done by The Marx Brothers, The Firesign Theater, and The Three Stooges - among others. In the 1990's, stupid turned to shit. And all we have to show for it? The fact that for some unknown reason Adam Sandler and The Farrelly Brothers still get movies made, without any quality to the films they turn out by and large. if you havent noticed just about all of his movies are meant to be stupid.. Good point. But stupid alone doesn't mean good. And stupid sure as hell doesn't mean "funny." It takes a great commedian to make the jokes work. Sandler is funny in his standup, on SNL (sometimes), and on his CD's. But when he makes movies, he is stepping onto turf that is not his and he cannot own it. He has to make a good movie. Comedies are admittedly hard to make work, but it's not right to throw praise at a film if it doesn't earn its' laughs and instead contributes to a society growing dumber because we think body humor is funnier than brain humor. In fact - today, the physical commedian is dead. When people run, it's not considered funny anymore. Only when they fart or take a vicious dump do people seem to crack up. And that is fucking too stupid for Comedy today. It doesn't belong in movies anymore. You see one toilet scene, you've seen them all. it comes down to if they make you laugh.. if not then thats fine but alot of people find his movies funny The standards of making people laugh have been surprisingly low since the 1980's. Sex comedies kind of helped to ruin the genre. But how can we forget the films that came out of that time - Airplane! and The Naked Gun. Two of the funniest films ever made. Films that get more honest laughs than Adam Sandler could ever hope to get, even by accident.

I guess it is a tight-rope situation.Your fans love you for comedy but you don't want to be typecast so you branch out into drama, romance, or artsy-fartsy movies. I highly doubt that fans of Happy Gilmore will go nuts over Reign on Me or Spanglish. It's like Sean Penn. Whatever shit-starting he does or whatever speech he is giving this week or what serious drama he is acting in, he will always be Spicoli to me!(colors was decent too)

And there are movies that are funny because they are actually funny. That's the difference between Airplane and Naked Gun, and most of Sandler's movies. Airplane and Naked Gun are actually funny movies. Sandler's best movies were not great because they were funny. The Wedding Singer was not a funny movie. It was a good light-hearted movie with a good cast and it was fun because it was feel-good. The Waterboy was funny because of Kathy Bates. That's it.

I found Wedding Singer to be a tolerable couples-movie.A little funny, a little sucky. Sandler's type of comedy is just at the other end of the "comedy spectrum" than parody comedy. My favorite humor is stuff like Best in Show,Spinal Tap, or A Mighty Wind. But since my friends either don't understand or like those movies, I'm stuck with comedy shit that is pure sight gags or a guy getting hit in the balls, etc. That stuff is good for parties or if you need a pick-me-up but is pretty juvenile. BTW, enough American Pie spin-offs already. The Stiflers are all retarded,WE GET IT! This shit has me begging for a Revenge of the Nerds remake.or Porkys!

I didn't like the original Porky's. So, I think a remake can go fuck itself.

At least Porky's brought up some real issues and had some feeling or emotion behind it. American Pie had boobs and... well that's all it had.

I've never seen all of American Pie, either.
By the way, what was all the hype about "Superbad" for? It was okay, but every review I read worshipped it.

I didn't find it very funny. It's just jokes about vaginas and penises.

Superbad was stupid because the writers aren't very smart. But obviously people like it so much because they have the perpetual mindset of a 6 year old and want to know people making movies are as immature as they are.
Same with that piece of crap Knocked Up.
