One of the greatest personalities in all of American cinema's directors, John Waters is the most bizarre and dirty-minded filmmaker of them all. His eccentric, trashy, often downright disgusting satiric comedies are destinctly outrageous. And yet, with his first 3 features all scoring X-ratings (the NC-17 of the 70's and 80's), he managed to cross over into the mainstream, win a good deal of critical acclaim, and is today regarded as something of a pop culture icon of bad taste and trash cinema. He's been featured on VH1's Totally Gay and I Love the '70s, Court TV's Til Death Do Us Part, and done several DVD audio commentaries for films that he hasn't directed. And though he publically admits and flaunts his strange interests in high-profile crime, exploitation films, and pornography for his own amusement, he has also managed to work with some of Hollywood's most respected actors and actresses, as well as other people of high international acclaim, including: Melanie Griffith, Johnny Depp, Kathleen Turner, Christina Ricci, Sam Waterston (10 or more years of Law & Order), Tracy Ullman, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Matthew Lillard, Tab Hunter, Roseanne, Chris Isaak, Edward Furlong, Iggy Pop, Steven Dorff, Lili Taylor, Selma Blair, Kevin Nealon (Saturday Night Live), Traci Lords, and Johnny Knoxville. Pink Flamingos (1972) Female Trouble (1975) Desperate Living (1977) Polyester (1981) Hairspray (1988) Cry-Baby (1990) Serial Mom (1994) Pecker (1998) Cecil B. Demented (2000) A Dirty Shame (2004)

Yeah, Tsmooth, the point of his '60s and '70s movies was to be as gross as he possibly could.

I love me some John Waters' movies! But I gotta say, there would've never been a place or inspiration for directors like Mr. Waters if not for the "infamous" Russ Meyer.

I like most of John Waters' movies because I think his sense of playfulness is a little more inventive and cultured than most of the sleazy directors. So it would be a bit hard to introduce me to many others. Basically, I don't expect any Serial Mom's from any other directors.
