It's one of those that grows on you. At least it was for me. I do think it's a little overrated though. In the same way the TCM is. It does have violence, but it's nowhere near as graphic as some people make it out to be.
Dr. Strangelove and the Shining also took multiple viewings for me to really appreciate them too. I still really don't care for 2001.

I started watching it, didn't get it, and didn't finish watching it. I got up to the part where people were trying to drown his head in a bucket on the street or something, then just gave up.

You may like the book better, but the words can be confusing. The characters speak Nadsat.

I think the movie spoke that language as well.

Yes, but it's a lot more frequent in the book. I had to look up some of the words on the internet to figure out what the characters were saying!

Awesome, awesome movie. The thing about Kubrick is you need to push out all the violence/imagery that is thrown at you to see the bigger theories at work. An absolutely brilliant man IMO. I love his pieces of work for much the same reasons that I love Cronenberg. Very similar methods, vastly different outlooks. Kubrick was more of a optimistic realist, while Crones more of a visceral pessimist.
But, I digress...................It's too bad most people get too caught up in "Clockwork's" controversial delivery, and miss the overall keystone messages. Truly brilliant and timeless IMO!

I agree. A lot of people see A Clockwork Orange as just a collection of rape scenes and violence, but it's really much, much more than that.

Disturbing movie.
I really like it, even though at times it does tend to get a little boring.

There's a rape scene near the beginning where Billy Boy and his droogs violently fondle a "weepy young devotchka". Then, there's the infamous Singing in the Rain rape scene. Finally, there's a rape scene shown on the movie screen during Alex's treatment.

Oh, I guess I should give it another watch. The only rape I remember is the hot chick in the red jumpsuit with the old husband. Anyways my favourite scene is the giant penis murder What a great death!

Ah yes, the woman in the red jumpsuit was quite a sight to behold! That murder you mentioned was indeed a strange, yet amazing, one. Wow

Was the other rape scene in that abandoned theatre? I remember now they raped that chick on some random mattress after beating up another gang

You're right except that the it happened before the gang was beat up. It wasn't an actual rape, per se, but there was a lot of groping and thrashing about.

Yes, i was waiting for some one to post a thread on A Clockwork Orange, by the way one of my favorite movie scores. I'm a big fan of the movie by kubrick and the book by Burgess. I felt that Kubrick, having been pressured by a largely American public, produced a pessimistic ending. The ending in the movie can definitely create a moment of confusion, emphasizing largely on "ultra violence," but the book's ending is much more different. If we are forced to be good, then its truely not our free will. We choose to be bad because we want too, but we eventually see with time that violence goes no where. Alex realizes this in the book and changes.
