Theyre showing the sequel after they show the original. I've never seen the sequel so maybe I'll check it out after watching the original. Apparently Rob Lowe is in it, so I won't get my hopes up.........................

I thought Stir of Echoes was... interesting. But again, a "creepy" kid in a ghost-themed movie always bugs me.

yeah, the kiddie was the lowpoint of the movie for me as well. Haley-Joel Osment ruined everything for these types of movies................................

Actually, he was the sad "don't hurt me" crybaby kid. He was the humanized version of that cliche. The ones I can't stand are the floaters - the totally inhabited, ghostly demeanor, heavily medicated, pale-eyed, sedated little possessed kids with the creepy dialogue. Someone (John Landis?) said it best when they said British kids are the only ones who can effectively pull off creepy. For American kids... you have to get them before they reach the age of 5 (Pet Sematary) and hope for the best.

Yeah i know what you mean. Even with the "creepy" dialogue set aside, everything else that comes out of his mouth seems as if it were written for a kid at least 16 years old. I mean just because he sees/talks with ghosts doesn't mean that he's all of a sudden capable of holding adult conversations at will.
And yeah, Landis or whoever said that British kids are better at being creepy is pretty much right. For some reason they seem to have a different "stare" about them for some reason or another..............

Maybe it's just that they treat their children with more respect and raise them with better values than we do. Or maybe the parents simply take a more active role in raising their kids. Maybe their kids have less to be afraid of, so they 'become' fear.

I got to visit Europe once back in high school. I recall that they definitely don't "objectify" and coddle their children like a lot of folks in our society and media tend to do.

And treat them as though they're idiots who can't think for themselves. Or that they're so impressionable that they can't understand simple messages that violence and drugs are wrong when they watch entertainment that glorify them. And that there is a time and place when they'll be ready for sex. Although I think the sex thing is a particularly sensitive area in America for a good reason (since it's directly related to self-esteem). In a way, I think Europe is just better adjusted because they're much less pretentious and bullsh it than we are. Less political and social unrest, among most of the society. Though I know they still have lots of crime and stuff - I had a conversation with some people online and they say there are definitely areas in the bigger cities in England that you just don't go near, although in England, you see that the problem isn't racially driven - far less impoverished black communities in Europe. And of course, many people run screaming from Italy altogether. I've never seen it. Is it worth watching? I'd say so. Because even when you factor out the creepy kid, the acting is good, the story is interesting, and the ending doesn't completely suck and/or cop-out (I thought).

The other shocker for me visiting abroad was that the U.S. is really one of the only countries where city police have a need for carrying firearms. Really gave me a new perspective on how absolutely out of control the gun problem is in our country......................
