I haven't seen the movie all the way through. But I have seen parts and it looks really stupid to me. James Woods has a lot of unfunny one-liners, and then of course since it's John Carpenter, there's a lot of action and fight scenes and gun blasts and whathaveyou... But it there any horror in it at all? Is it scary at all? Is there any message? On the Masters of Horror DVD for John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns, Sheryl Lee talks about how her role in the movie was all actor-y and the motivation for the movie was all about drugs and stimulation and living with no human restraints... But all I see are action battles and dumb guys talking. What's up with this movie in your opinion? Is there anything really going on here?

Horror? No. It's more like Blade, or From Dusk Till Dawn. Actually, it's basically a rip-off of From Dusk Till Dawn. It's completely boring too. I've never understood why people make such a big fuss over it.
At least it's not as ridiculous as the sequel. I haven't seen it, but any movie that stars the pussiest of all 80s hair metal musicians (and it took much effort to come out as the biggest pussy of them all) as an ass kicking Vampire hunter, is ridiculous. James Woods I can buy as a vampire hunter. Wesley Snipes, too. Jon Bon Jovi, fuck no!

LOL!!! You know, I trust (for the most part) your opinion more than anyone else's here. And nobody here was screaming that it was that great, but I trust my instincts so much before I see a movie and just seeing those clips of James Woods talking about "dicks" said to me... This film has no inner meaning. And people have been saying for years that Carpenter's films have so much inner meaning. So much depth. YEAH RIGHT! I don't think anything he's done has had much going on in the movie.
Basically, people make such a fuss about it because it's John Carpenter, he has a bunch of fanboys who love sci-fi and action movies (maybe a little too much).
I'm glad you mentioned Bon Jovi. About 5 years ago, I was going through this person I was spending time with's CD collection. And pulling out a lot of Greatest Hits CDs by artists / bands of the 1980's. And listening to whatever song sounded familiar to me. And I have to say... I can't believe how bad Bon Jovi's stuff was. I mean, those songs are terrible!

I thought it was cool because it was different. It was like a Vamp-western with the scenery and music. A decent watch with some good FX. Not a shitpile by far.
And yes, Bon Jovi sucks to the power of ass.

pretty mediocre. John Carpenter really half-asses it some times.
