The only movie I have seen that really scared me was Blair Witch Project.
I was never scared of The Shining, Jaws, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, or any of those because I've been watching them since I was a toddler. My parents raised me on horror, but BWP caught me off guard.
Even thinking about it, especially the ending, gives me honest-to-goodness goosebumps.

BWP bored me to sleep. Literally. I'm an insomniac too. I did find part 2 somewhat enjoyable, but most people--both fans and haters of the original--typically despise it. I don't know why really. It's a cliched movie for sure, but it was a lot more exciting, and fun to watch than the original, and most other horror movies made around that time. That period was just a low point for horror in general really.
When I first saw Friday the 13th 3 it scared me. So did Ghost Story. I was really young when I saw them. Today I find Friday the 13th 3 comical, and Ghost Story absolutely boring.

As a youngling, Poltergeist.Still never seen the whole thing.
No bullshit, I had to fast forward parts of 1408 last week. I was pretty ripped at the time but the basic premise of the story was spooky and effective. Just telling a story here, I would not put this on a top ten list.
Some parts of House on Haunted Hill (90's version) scared me too.(the quick shaking heads)
As far as nightmares...not that I recall. Once and a while, I have Jason dreams.Usually he kills everyone and I'm hiding. Then he finds me and I wake up.No dream analysis please. My mom does that enough.
To be honest, I would like one of those dreams you see in the movies. You know, where you wake up scared shitless and sweating buckets.Be careful what you wish for...

I've never been fully scared. But I've been wound up or on the edge of my seat during several horror movies. Movies that really got a reaction out of me include:
Needful Things (1993) Dolls (1986) Theater of Blood (1973) John Carpenter's The Thing (1982) Critters 2 (1988) Barbarella (1968) Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo (1990)
then, there are films where the anticipation of something scary or violent happening really unnerved you or got you spooked. Those movies include:
Scream (1996) Gremlins (1984) Sorority House Massacre II (1990)

Sorry Piggsy, I think The Blair Witch Project is probably the worst horror film I've ever seen in my life. Sorority House Massacre II? Seriously? Yes. But I was a kid when I was channel surfing one night, watching TV in the dark, I was alone in the room, this was one of the first R-rated horror films I'd ever seen, on Cinemax- so they played it without cutting the violence or nudity, and I came upon it during a scene where Janey was walking downstairs and drinking, so I knew something was going to happen, I just didn't know what because I had never seen any of the R-rated horror films that everyone else had seen. I had no clue what was going to happen and nothing to compare it to. Maybe in a way I was lucky- some of my first exposure to R-rated horror were low budget films on late night Cinemax. So I've never had that bullshit thing about only prefering Hollywood or big budget horror movies. Plus, seeing movies like that as a kid helped me grow into loving horror as a genre without nudity being any kind of problem for me. Anyway, Sorority House Massacre II is also one of my favorite horror films. I've watched it at least 15-20 times. I think I can quote it line-for-line fairly accurately. Plus I grew up in the VHS era. A lot of rewinding and rewatching. Frostbiter: Wrath of the Wendigo (1990)funny you mention that movie.. i was just looking up movies yesterday because i wanted to order something and i was really thinking about getting this one...is it as cheesy as most troma films? Ha. I had a childhood fear of this movie. I saw it once and it completely messed with my mind. There were things that happened in the movie that I never forgot. It kind of became an obsession. So last year, I got the DVD and watching it now as an adult, yeah I guess it is pretty cheesy. But even though I watch a lot of cheesy movies, I can't really tell you how cheesy it is or in what way it's cheesy. I guess it depends on your definition of what's cheesy and what's not. The part with the witch is stupid. It's obvious that it's a guy in bad makeup and rubber. There are about 3 of the hunter characters that try to be funny all the time- the black guy, the guy with glasses, and the guy from the beginning- you'll know him when you see him. The one that talks very fast and too much. But everytime I see the movie, I still get chills. But it's a definite Troma movie. Has the full feel and effect of most Troma movies I've seen. It's incredibly cheap, the acting is awful from everyone (except the black guy), the special effects are basic. But I think the blood looked good, and there as hell was a lot of it. From what I remember. hmm i think i may have to pick it up sometime then...frostbiter that is Oh, I would definitely recommend it. The best thing about it is that I've never seen another movie like it. It seems to be influenced by (or ripping off) The Evil Dead, and I thought I saw a Fulci reference or two (visually) in the scene where the monster first appears at the "circle of skulls" shack. But it's fast paced, insane, unpredictable, and as far as I can tell- the first horror movie about the Wendigo, which is a real Native American legend. Like Bigfoot, the Lochness monster, or the Chupacabra. So, they mix that legend with the Evil Dead stuff they like so much. It really is a crazy, wild movie with more than a few things about it that makes it a memorable viewing experience.
