I cringed when I heard about this remake, but the screenplay is done by Alexandre Aja and he is also gonna direct it, so now I'm looking forward to it. It could be really sick and cool, no?

I haven't heard of this. That sucks, SNDN is a slasher classic! However, Aja managed to make a great horror film (High Tension) and a decent one (Hills Have Eyes). If I had to choose who made this remake, it would be him. And perhaps Rob Zombie...
By the way, have you seen P2, shunty?

No. Is P2 good? That hot chick in it makes me wanna see it. Your opinion of Aja's two movies are exactly what I think as well: High Tension (great) and Hills Have Eyes (decent). I only hope that Eli Roth doesn't get the rights to any remakes.

I haven't seen P2 yet, I might rent it, but I figured it should be at least watchable since Aja helmed it.

If it holds a R-rating, might be watchable.

If it holds a R-rating, might be watchable. Definitely. PG-13 slashers are a waste of time. The only, and I mean only, reason to watch a slasher film is to see bad actors die in terrible and gruesome ways. If you take out the gore, what are you left with? Cheap scares and cut-away death scenes. Just look at the upcoming "Prom Night" remake.

Exactly.Prom Night is my 2nd fave slasher and it is about to be butchered. At least this means a proper release of the original Prom Night on dvd.

I hope so, as I've never watched it. That and "April Fool's Day" and "Terror Train".....oh, and "The Burning".
I really have to catch up on my slashers.

Alexandre Aja SUCKS!!! High Tension is a piece of SHIT!!! His remake of The Hills Have Eyes was blasphemous and couldn't be better than Wes Craven's film on any planet - but it was still better than Tension.
But... I have to admit, I will always say as long as they're remaking a movie that's not very good, I don't mind that it's being remade.

I do agree with you that Craven's version is way better than the remake.

To the person who said Aja sucks: I hope you at least think Eli Roth is worse. Because he is. Way worse.

Not really.
Cabin Fever was not good. But technically it showed a lot more talent than Aja has. The music score was at least superb. Which I can't say for any North American made movies this decade that come to mind. But yeah Cabin Fever was overrated.
I haven't seen Hostel Part II yet but there's no way it's any good. I've heard a lot of huffing and puffing, but it doesn't take a genius to see how Roth changed the formula of the first movie: just make it women. We've seen it a million times before.
Hostel is actually a very good movie though. But strangely, it's a movie a lot of people have a difficult time understanding. Let me simplify it - it's supposed to be annoying. It's about 3 stupid guys who are jerks and get exactly what they were asking for. We're not supposed to like any of the characters. And it wasn't designed to be the goriest or most torture-filled movie.

I beg to differ. Hostel was set up to be exactly that. A torture movie with the goriest gore. However the plot stank horribly because Roth doesn't know how to write for shit.

He's a much better writer than Rob Zombie. And he's a better cinematic director than dumbass Aja. I'll agree one of his big flaws is that he doesn't know how to write characters and plot. But for Hostel, he managed to strike the right balance. That film is just good enough to easily trump anything Rob Zombie and idiot-Aja have done yet.

I enjoy Rob Zombie's work. He's a big fan of 70's horror, and it definitely comes through. In fact, "The Devil's Rejects" is among my favorite films of all time.
"Halloween" just didn't have the witty dialogue or memorable characters that made his first two movies so great.

I thought some of House of 1,000 Corpses was witty. But it got too overbearing in the second half of the movie. The Devil's Rejects should have taken a different approach. But there are even more stupid lines and scenes as in the first movie. I like good horror, regardless of what decade it's from. And Rob Zombie is not a real credit to this decade.

What didn't you like about TDR? Even Roger Ebert gave it a 3/4 star rating. I thought Zombie really showed his directing skills there...very stylish.

I won't argue anymore. Saying Hostel is a very good movie and better than Aja's work speaks for itself.

As a big fan of Hostel and High Tension, I have to call a draw. Aja seems to make serious films while Roth's films are more gore-crazy and surreal.Almost funny (especially Hostel 2). That's why I dig Zombie- he is a more balanced director knowing when to be funny, serious, etc. I think the upcoming film"The Cell" which Roth is directing, will be a big make-or-break situation for him(and the fans).
p.s. Aja's Hills Have Eyes remake was pretty bad. Good gore but that's all.
