I'd say Reservoir Dogs is his best directed film but True Romance is his best screenplay. What do you guys think?

Kill Bill Vol 2. True Romance though is definently his best screenplay. That one is a movie I like better than any Tarantino directed movie.

Going to have to agree all the way with you there Mal. It would have been nice to have seen how Tarantino would have done True Romance himself though. It's a great movie as is, but it almost certainly got changed around from his own vision of it.
I'm going to give my pick for worst too: Jackie Brown. That one was a huge let down. It had a great cast, but managed to be pretty boring.

What about Death Proof? I though it was very dialogue-heavy and boring. Like Jackie Brown, his tributes to exploitation, 60's-70's films don't translate well IMO.
Kill Bill 2 had a very unexpected ending. I figured it would be like a 10-minute duel between the two but cool just the same. The eye-yanking/crushing was a nice surprise.

I haven't seen Death Proof, so I can't comment.
I didn't hate Kill Bill vol 2, but it was a major let down, after vol 1. I mean with the bloodbath ending the first one had, I expected it to at least keep up, but it didn't even try. Not that there weren't some cool scenes.
Also, Bill was a better character before we got to know him. This is one time where I think character development hurt the movie, because it just became impossible to accept him (Grasshopper of all people) as this evil, vicious, cold-blooded killer, when actually he seemed like a nice enough guy. I see where Tarantino was trying to go with Bill it just didn't work quiet right imo.

I agree. Quentin would have been better to leave him mysterious.

tarantino didn't want to do the exact same thing with both volumes. vol 1 was supposed to be martial arts and vol 2 was supposed to be a western of sorts. anyway, what happened to everybody else here?

I'm going with: as my favorite of his. Perhaps Pulp Fiction is better. But PF is genre-confused. Which is cool for the fans. But Jackie Brown is more focused as a genre work, more dramatic, more believable, powerful, romantic, soulful, and is actually a good damn tale of revenge. The woman gets to keep the money, gets revenge on Ordell, and snaps a few other twigs along the way - she gets the stupid blonde "chick" Melanie killed, screws over the ATF but makes them think they got what they wanted, and partially because of her- Robert De Niro's character gets killed as well. I don't mind that PF likes to bounce around a lot. But Jackie stays put and because of that, it manages to make me care about any of the characters. Something I can't say about PF.
