you should play it, it's great. the only thing that sucks is they got rid of multiplayer in the switch from ps2 to ps3.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Another FPS-RPG hybrid with free-roam tossed in for good measure. It's similar to Fallout, though it's set in and around Chernobyl after a second disaster. It lacks to dark humor of Fallout though.
My initial reaction to this was negative. For a FPS combat is fucking hard. If you go in running and gunning you are going down quick. Enemy AI is top-notch too. Enemies will take cover, run from grenades, and even work together to flank you. Mutant dogs are very good at this--1 or 2 will run from you, while a whole pack will attack you from all sides.
You aren't really given much instruction on what to do. That's the RPG aspect I guess. You need to talk to anyone who is neutral or friendly towards you. You can get jobs from many of them, or trade for goods and cash. The Trader you first meet will give you special assignments, that progress the story.
Once you figure out how to stay alive it gets really interesting. Combat stays pretty intense, even once you get some decent guns and armor. The story is pretty cool (so far anyway) but it's mainly done through chatting with NPCs, and not cutscenes--some people hate cutscenes, but I'm not one of them; the more the better as far as I'm concerned.
This game looks great, and the sound is very atmospheric. he weather effects are very good, and the overall feel of your surroundings is very gloomy. It's supposed to be a horror game, but it's not very scary. The downside is that the game likes to lag badly, and very often. It apparently wasn't optimized very much, but there are some mods that try to address that.
Another low point is the guns. None I've gotten so far are all that powerful or accurate. Even with a scope rifle it's hard to get headshots because your enemies constantly move around. The scope doesn't allow for zooming in and out either. Aiming really sucks on unscoped weapons, because it doesn't give you any crosshairs to determine whether or not you've got the enemy targeted. On unscoped weapons it's better to just fire from the hip, and rely on the crosshairs.
Another low point are the artifacts. They are supposed to improve your stats, but whoever created them just didn't think them out that well. Most of the ones you find early on cause continuous radiation buildup, which will hurt you very fast. Eventually you start finding ones that don't poison you like that, but they don't offer that good of a stat boost either. Right now I'm using just artifacts that increase endurance and don't poison you. Bottom line is that artifacts just don't seem worthwhile to me, which is strange considering that the plot revolves around people risking life and limb to hunt them. To a great extent armors do what artifacts should, but there isn't that great of a selection of armors, and they are pretty rare--mostly you get them from NPCs as rewards, though there are some to be found too.
Speaking of endurance, it blows. You can't carry very much before you get exhausted at every step. I downloaded a mod that more than triples your capacity, and I still have to keep an eye on how much stuff I decide to take off of corpses.
All in all this is a fun game. It feels like something that should have been beta tested more, but it's still quiet impressive even with the quirks and bugs. To be fair, this was created by a fledgling, Ukrainian developer, and not a big name company. As they grow, maybe they will have more capital to invest in testing. I do think the company has a lot of potential. The prequel is set to be released later this year, and hopefully it will be a big improvement.

stealth games? hmmm, metal gear has a lot of stealth but i don't think it is really a stealth game. the best game that is mostly stealth i have ever played is Manhunt for the ps2. bloody good.

FF hasn't really been turn based in a long time. They use the active battle system which combines turn base and real time. I haven't played FFXII yet, but it's battle system is based on FFXI. FFXI is more real time than turn based--everyone attacks automatically and constantly, but you have to time special moves and spells with those of your team members. Well that's how it was meant to be anyway. These days people just solo weapon skills, and shun black mages, at least in regular exp/merit parties; endgame events do require coordination if you want to stand a chance, and blms are still the king damage dealers there.
Hitman is one of my favorite series ever. I'm really torn between Silent Assassin and Blood Money. Both are great games, but for different reasons.
Manhunt is another favorite of mine. It's about as close to a perfect game as you can get imo.

I agree, lowkey. Manhunt is one of my favorite games of all time. It had some memorable moments, like the first time you see Piggsy. I peed a little.

Oblivion lacks the cool tunes, bosses, and cut scenes that FF is famous for.Oblivion may be more realistic but ,as in GTA 4, that doesn't make for a better game.

Oblivion just looks nice. You'd be hard pressed to find a better looking RPG. The game itself is just mediocre though. The main story is just too short, and there's not a single plot twist to make it interesting. There's no real consequences in the game either. You can join all factions without it affecting the rest. The thieves guild makes it clear that they don't tolerate murder, and even specifically tell you that they don't like the Dark Brotherhood, so logically you can become the head of both. The Shivering Isles is a lot more interesting than the main story.
FF games are linear too, but there's always plenty of twists to keep it interesting.

been playing dark sector some more, loving it even more
there is this power you get where you throw your glaive ( which is like a round boomerang with knife like objects on it) for those who dont know, but after you throw it you can change the view and control the glaive and chase the guys down and slice there body parts off, so much fuckin fun!!!
