Herschel Gordon Lewis' movies kind of suck by todays standards. The gore is really fake and cheesy, and that's the only thing good about them. He did invent the gore film as we know it though, so his work is important. It's kind of like how 2001 redefined sci-fi. It was amazing for it's time, but today it just can't compare to the best the genre has to offer.

That makes me feel two different things at the same time.
On the one way, I'll tell you- I consciously avoided ever watching a HGL movie because the plots and trailers never interested me (okay, the trailer for Blood Feast was cool but gross), plus the scene of Blood Feast in John Waters' film Serial Mom didn't inspire much interest either. It looked like the kind of movie no one would have ever heard of. And of course now we know, there's usually a reason for that.
But I also feel like I have to defend the movies immediately. Only because "Today's Standards" are a bunch of fucking horseshit. And thank god for people like Eli Roth. He may have incorrectly thought The Devil's Rejects and the Dawn of the Dead remake were great films, but he's a young voice (in an old body, it's true- the guy's nearly 37) keeping the older films alive anyway he can (literally, he's done the Bravo horror specials, Trailers from Hell, and his Greats of Roth film festival, which inspired Edgar Wright and Joe Dante to follow suit). And he respects the films not as "cheesy-but ain't cheesy fun?" trash relics, but as actual films. Though he may often be obnoxious- he's not doing anything just for the money. Which is surprising in this decade.

Well, Lazario has professed his attraction to Eli before. Even I'll admit he's a handsome guy.

Everybody looks 25 these days. I was most amazed by that guy from... one of those Bravo specials. I believe it was the Project Runway thing. Some guy called Nick. I honestly thought he was 22... He was 38 at the time. Now he's probably 40. He still looks about 23, max. It's scary. People say the same thing about Dick Clark and Joan Collins. But they can't hold a candle to this kid-man. now i get it laz! you kiss hostel's ass cause you wanna bone eli roth! Are you aware that Mr. Roth has directed 3 films?

Piggsy loves a good argument. I'm personally bored to the extreme. In fact, what Shunty is saying is so completely beyond absurd. If I was as low as what he's doing now- I could say half of the people on this board only like such-and-such horror movie because the female cast is hot. But I wouldn't say that because that is feeble-minded. When is he going to get some new material? All the times we've clashed in the past 3 weeks has been Eli Roth related. Who cares? I've already said I'm not a fan of his work. I just respect most of his opinions about the genre. He's a smart guy. And Hostel was a great movie. It was very well-made and had a good point. Which is more than I can say about over 99% of what's coming out in the genre today.

And exactly just how do you think you did that? I mean, if you're so proud of yourself, reveal your brilliance.
Do something to make this situation not boring.

Shunty - you haven't made me crack and you're not nearly intrusive enough to get into my head.
You could keep trying or you could get them loftier goals and have something you can be proud of yourself for.
