Alright, here's my personal top ten(in no particular order): 1.Night of the Demons 1 : great music, killer ending 2.Day of the Dead : wicked story, great characters 3.Sleepaway Camp 2 : good old campy fun 4.Friday part 7: The New Blood : great showdown 5.Return of the Living Dead :same reasons as #1 6.Hellraiser 2 : sorta sad when the cenobites "die" 7.Feast : as far as new stuff goes, the best of the best 8.Cabin Fever : go grab a big 40,just party! 9.Leatherface : the greatest of the massacres! 10.Pan's Labyrinyth : excuse the spelling.maybe a weird pick but it did have a few assorted "monsters" in it. plus I found the score to be phenomenal, which to me ,completes the movie experience! Also, there are a few sequels thrown up there... which means I don't go by that "original is the best" crap.

Good list, especially Night of the Demons and Sleepaway Camp 2. ;D I haven't yet seen Pan's Labyrinth, but I've heard good things.

3.Sleepaway Camp 2 : good old campy fun If you say so. I think 3 is a lot more fun (until the tie-up ending). 2 is just overly sleazy and depressing. And the acting is unbelievably bad. The acting in part 3 is much better. 4.Friday part 7: The New Blood : great showdown That's the best in the series, as far as I'm concerned. And you're right- that showdown is killer. 9.Leatherface : the greatest of the massacres! Haven't seen it yet, I'm assuming you mean Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, but nothing can beat Texas Chainsaw Massacre '74. Nothing. Just sayin'. Also, there are a few sequels thrown up there... which means I don't go by that "original is the best" crap. Good. And for the record, I agree with you. At least 3 of the Friday the 13th sequels were better than the first, I'd say in certain ways Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was better than part 1 (better special effects, better acting, better score), and there are more but I can't think of them right away.

Um, well, none of those selections would ever come close to making my top 10. But it is your list, so to each his own I guess...........

Should we all do our own Top Ten lists? Maybe this is an okay place to do that in... Does anyone think they know what their Top Ten list would include?

i thought Pan's Labyrinyth was very overated..it was a decent movie..but nothing more... i never saw sleepaway camp 2 or 3 but prob should check them out overall tho good to see you dont have much of that big hollywood budget crap as your favs.. none of those would crack my top 10 but it is good to see older/ lower budget movies up there ill do my top 10 maybe later...although none of you will know most since i mostly stick to very low budget

Oh, T, your idea of great horror today is dominated by direct to video sludge.

theres alot of good low budget horror
sure there is alot of crap too
but like i have said a movie just has to be entertaining for me to like..
i dont care if the acting is good or if its well made or any of that crap..i watch a movie to be entertained..if it does that then its good in my books

Acting is ESSENTIAL to the film... usually. Eurohorror is an exception. "Entertainment" value is based on a lot more that... whatever it is that entertains you. We're still not quite sure what that is yet. And frankly, it doesn't sound like even you know what entertains you...

If I actually tried to sit down and rate my top 10 favorites, I think eventually my head would explode.

^^^ I'd say I agree with T for the most part here. A good/original plot can carry bad acting a long ways in the horror genre. On the flip side, you can have a great cast, but with a lame storyline a horror movie will really struggle. I think that's why horror is one of the few genres of film where the low-budget boys can compete, and sometimes surpass, the big-budget Hollywood films.

^^ another thing to add to that is most low budget movie makers do it because they love it...unlike hollywood guys just out for the $$$
so im not gonna hold it against a low budget director because he cant pay top dollar for start actors and stuff
i have seen alot of movies that would get ripped by critics..but i had a great time with them and could care less about the bad acting..it really doesnt bother me one bit

Yeah, I usually give horror movies a pass when it comes to acting as well because that's really not why I'm watching that type of movie to begin with. Besides, let's face it, any actor/actress that's made a name for themself isn't going to bother lending their "talents" to a horror flick. They're much to worried about being nominated for their precious Academy Awards, and we all know that horror movies will never be able to offer that for them. Besides, the more I think about this, the more I think I actually almost PREFER to have no name actors in horror.

A good/original plot can carry bad acting a long ways in the horror genre. Ha. An idea will only take you so far. It goes nowhere if it's not supported by things like acting (which almost every film can afford- you just do multiple takes and choose the one that has the least screeching in the person's voice and seems to come across with the most sincerity... or is just the funniest) or style or energy. It costs a film's production nothing extra to be furthered by good editing (talent doesn't cost more than the standard post-production costs). And some of the cheapest horror films had great scores - Evil Dead, Bad Taste, Piranha, Phantasm. Face it, it's usually more about a director's overall talent than anything else. And a good director knows the value of every onscreen element. obviously not since you liked s quirm Oh, you think so? Well, I didn't "like" Sq uirm- it entertained me. ;D ;D but i could really care less about acting...its overated Bullshit. Maybe in a drama... but never in a horror film. And the only reason you'd say something like that? Just to raise the bar for the stuff you usually watch. And again- when it comes to "entertain"ing someone... if you have no standards, than what entertains you is like a personal religion - who gives a shit? Do you care about other people's personal stuff - religion or opinion? Without standards, it only applies to one person. So, I guess you don't know what your standards are, though...

^^^ i really dont have standards when watching a movie...im not like you where every little thing has to be perfect for you to like it..you will complain about every little damn thing..and not only that but it takes you about 10 times to watch a movie to even know what you think about it..i really could care less about acting..seeing a movie with well known actors doesnt make it any more enjoyable..i watch a movie if it entertains me in any way then i like it...it can be a movie with a great story and great acting...or it can be a cheesy low budget movie with terrible acting..i really dont care..

Bullshit it was. That was the biggest bunch of crap I've ever heard in my life. You keep saying the same thing a million times, hoping it will be true. It wasn't true then and it's not true now. You're as clueless about me as you are about horror movies. And you resent me being smart. Which is why you use the same pathetic lines over and over again- "every little thing has to be perfect." Bullshit. And obviously if that were true, I wouldn't be talking to you. You're not perfect- are you? You don't like that I know what's going on in a movie and you feel your way through most things. You know what that means? That means you don't know anything. So just don't talk to me at all, huh? If you're okay with me knowing more than you- just don't reply. Stop trying to use your stupid GUESSES against me. You can't do it. All you do is make Dave look dumber by agreeing with you.

what are you even talking about??? what i said is true..i like a movie for the entertainment value i dont sit there and complain about everything..and what does me being perfect have to do with a movie? im talking about movies not me... not everyone cares about acting , lighting, costume design, location, plot, setting and every single little thing like you.. if your gonna call it clueless about movies because i can enjoy a movie thats not perfect without calling it out for every little thing then go ahead you take them way to serious..why not try sitting back watching a movie and just take it for what it is..a fun way to kill some time and stop with your little childesh games about who know more about horror movies..there is nothing to know..i like what i like and you like what you like..it shows you have probs when you gotta turn it into a competition and act like the movie you watch are better and you know more about me..thats pretty sad so just stop
