Don't hold back. Name one or more movies that made you either tear up or cry like a frightened schoolgirl.
For me, it'd have to be "Philadelphia" (you know, that one with Tom Hanks) and "E.T".

I actually cry really easily at movies, but here's a list of the ones that REALLY open the waterworks every time, guaranteed.
Beaches Steel Magnolias Fried Green Tomatoes A Little Princess (1995) A Walk To Remember Little Women (1994) Pay It Forward A.I. Artificial Intelligence Selena

The last thing I watched that actually made me tear up was the HBO special "Alive Day" that was hosted by James Gandolfini. It's him interviewing soldiers that have come back from Iraq maimed, paralized, etc. It got to me 'cuz it's not a movie; it's real people who have had their lives destroyed forever, and also because I lost my best friend and Uncle in that bullshit war. It was really well done, but I'm not sure I could bring myself to ever watch it again.

I suppose some could/would call it cheesy, but it's really not. It's a series of Japanese animated movies from the early '80s.

That's cool. I'm not one of those people who are insane into anime and all that. I just like the older, dramatic fantasy films / shows. I like Unico, Sailor Moon (the first 70 episodes, after that- I have no clue what's going on), and that Case Closed show.

Well, when it comes to horror movies - the Asian people don't know pure horror. They have very little in their culture that is pure horror. Most of their scary stuff comes from mythology and legends of ghosts (they are one of the biggest areas of the world for ghost stories). A lot of their 1960's horror films were about warriors and samurai. Even in the 1990's with people like Ronny Yu who made The Bride with White Hair. They mix fantasy with horror and drama with horror. And their goriest stuff (Junk?, Biozombie) mixes comedy with horror. They don't have anything pure. They mix everything in their horror. They don't really have slasher movies. And except for Godzilla, they don't really have monster movies either. They don't have a lot of expertly talented special effects people.
So they have to rely on visionary people, like Ronny Yu and Takashi Miike to make their films atmospheric and disturbing. But again, their style just isn't pure.

Shallow Hal- when he runs into the little girl in the burn ward.To me, nothing in life is crueller than a sick kid or a kid who has had a shitty deal handed to them.I believe in karma and for that to happen to someone who has done nothing to others is just plain sad. That's why I give to our children's hospital regularly.

One of my biggest pet peeves as well is when people are insensitive about people who have a very hard life and still have to work as hard as people who don't have their problems.
I've always wanted to donate blood. But I heard they have weird rules about gay people.

Oh, they call it 'taking the proper precautions,' but then I never actually tried to donate blood. So these are just things I've heard. Something about they ask you if you've had sex in six months and if you have had sex in less than six months, and then I heard they make you take a test to prove you're telling the truth, they will let you donate blood.
I believe the main reason they do this is because of the common misconception about AIDS. They know most gay people don't have it, but to "ease the homophobic sections of the public" (or whatever), they guarantee others that they take the "strictest precautions" with gay people. But then again, I don't work with or for these people. So I can't say I know for sure why they choose to do this.

I have no idea why some people still think AIDS is a "gay disease". This isn't the 80's anymore! Gay or straight, everybody has the same risk of getting it.
Oh well...

The way I hear it, the problem is bigger in the black community and the most at-risk group of people are heterosexual females.

I also heard it was a threat to black people. Didn't the disease originate in Africa?
