is that really true about dolphins?? i never heard that
and yea that is what i have been saying about the pain, the animal obviously doesnt know what is going on simply because they are not as smart as humans, but that doesnt mean they dont feel pain the same, i would imagine just about every animal feels it the same

LOL Well I'm no dolphin expert, but that's what I've heard. I am a recreational diver, and the boat crew always warn about two things with dolphins:
1. don't hang onto the dolphins fins and let them tow you, because they will take you very far from the boat, and deeper than you can safely go. You may think you can just let go anytime, but they swim much faster than you can, and if you aren't paying very close attention you'll end up in a potentially deadly situation in matter of seconds.
2. For women: if you are on the rag get the hell out of the water if you see a dolphin.
Dolphins are usually just fascinated by humans. They are extremely playful, so a lot of people mistake that as safety. Dolphins are still wild animals no matter how intelligent, cute, or playful they are. Generally they aren't dangerous, as long as you understand that they aren't people with fins, and are very capable of really hurting, or killing you, even if they don't mean any harm. Like with the fin thing, they don't understand that you can't handle the depths they can, or hold you breath for as long as they are accustomed to.
Aside from food, certain species of sharks are really the only things they are intentionally aggressive towards, just for the hell of it. The sex thing isn't really meant as an act of aggression, though if you were the one being violated you might feel differently about it.

yea i have always wanted to swim with dolphins.. it just seems like a cool thing to try, although i would prob only do it in a safe place like a pool.. i always thought dolphins were pretty amazing tho ever since the time i saw a clip of them come to the rescue of a man being attacked by a shark

Getting back to your original post. I would save the child. If it were a cat and a child, however, I would need to give it a little more thought...

Ah, come on. You can't respect the independent, free spirited attitude of cats. They so much more "real" than dogs.

I like both. Growing up, my grandpa would take in any stray that came along, dog or cat. I just got used to having both around.

I won't disagree that most people prefer dogs over cats, but I will concede that, sadly, they are wrong. Cats have way more personality that dogs. All a dog wants to do is please. They're sycophants. A cat doesn't give a shit about pleasing you. I can respect that.

Cats do have more personality than dogs. As for which is better... Sometimes dogs are a lot more fun. I think people who hate cats are just channeling back to the Salem Trial days where everyone (but the witches) were scared of cats, thinking they were cursed. no i dont think that, that is a diff type of pain tho... i mean im sure they both hurt a real lot.. maybe animal birth is just as painful as human birth.. again its not like the animal can scream and actually say it is in pain Now... I know I'm being a hard-ass, but you're doing whatever you can to divert the issue here. The reaction animals have to pain proves beyond the shadow of any reasonable doubt that their brains distribute pain differently. So- you saying they feel the same amount of pain we do doesn't mean anything. The brain is the thing that makes us feel pain. Therefore, the reaction proves animals feel less pain than humans do. Because it shows us how the brain deals with pain. If they are aware of less pain - they feel it less than we do. And stop trying to talk around these points - they are the proof that I am right. Sorry. i was basically talking about like i said bashing a human or animal with a hammer or hitting them with a car.. i dont see why they wouldnt feel the same pain with that Actually - that's absurd. Animals have smaller hands. If you hit them on the paw with a hammer, you hit the entire thing. Unless you hit a person with a humungous hammer, you can't strike over their entire hand. Hitting an animal with a car will most likely kill it. Hitting a person with a car... it has to be a big car to kill them. There's also the concept of Instinct. People feel more pain now than they did when they were Cave-Men/Women. It's about understanding the pain.
